  • Post Disneyland Depression (PDD)

For years I've suffered from this and was amazed today to find out it's real:
Post Disney Depression (PDD) happens to kids and guests all over the world. However, a severe case happens to cast members who do a program known as the ICP (International College Program) or CRP ( Cultural Representative Program). Some symptoms of PDD are: saying a cheesy greeting to people as they enter the parks, parties at Vista Way apartments, Sunday nights at House of Blues, karaoke night at Buffalo Wild Wings, 4 lokos, late night Wendy's and Wal Greens runs, and the list goes on. As of right now no cure has been found. Disney has been told about this program and research funding has begun for this initiative.

I just got back from my annual Disneyland trip last night and although it was my best trip ever, I've got the worst case of PDD this time. I thought maybe I'd finally post to see if anybody else suffers from this "affliction." If so, maybe we can create a virtual support group.

Also, I wanted to introduce myself to everyone. Sorry if I posted in the wrong forum. I'm new!

I don't think that I suffer from Post Disneyland Depression, but I definitely have "I Wish I Could Go To Disneyland More Often Itis".

I'm not surprised. I had this before I got my AP.

I have that too, BA. We just got back two weeks ago, and I'm already bugging hubby to go back...trying to talk him into moving closer. No luck, yet though

I get this the second I walk out of the park, boundless happiness and energy inside but the further you get from the park the more tired and depressed you become wanting to turn around and go back in! By the time your at your car your considering coming back the next day to relieve the PDD. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to suffer so for 'home'

          DCA Visits - 52

I hear ya. Technically I could go back if I wanted. I am an adult, my wife enjoys it almost as much as I do, and I'm sure I could talk her into another trip...unfortunately it's a matter of cost and lack of vacation time. I live in Arizona, so even though we're not too far away, the cost of travel still definitely adds up.
I'm just hoping this feeling passes soon though. I'm really amazed at how terrible I feel about the trip being over.

I believe it was this very condition that led to the creation of Mice Chat. I've got it too.

Micechat does help the syndrome but only a trip back will make it totally go away .....

I've got a bit fo both as well. I'm like Ennis in Brokeback Mountain, beating a wall at the pain of separation. Wait, that was a bad analogy.

Seriously though, given how far I am from the nearest park - we are talking 8/9 hour flight to either Hong Kong or Tokyo; 14 for Anaheim; 18 for Florida and far too many (20+) for Paris - leaving one of them once I'm there is very hard to do. Arriving back home in a place where there is no Magic Kingdom is incredibly depressing and almost tangible.

As it is blatantly obvious from my last few posts, I'm already planning the next one, even if it is a few years off.

                            Re: Post Disneyland Depression (PDD)

I suffer horribly from PDD. I only visit Disneyland once every other year, and the last visit was September 2005 (the day after which we moved to Canada), and so I have an entire year to go before the next trip.

MiceChat does help, especially when some people visit the park almost every day and post photos (<cough>DarkBeer<cough>).

Back in the old days I had to make do with the text-only alt.disney.disneyland, and before that I would gaze longingly at old Disneyland Today guides, and before that I had to keep my room clean and do all my chores in the hopes that as a reward my parents would drive us up to Disneyland for a day, and before that I was stuffed in a sack and beaten with reeds (okay, maybe not that last one).

I am usually envious of those of you who live close enough to make multiple trips to Disneyland each week.

My friend who is a big Disney fan moved to New York last year and he had PDD bad!!! I would call him everytime I went into the park and leave him long voicemails about what I was seeing and hearing all around me!

                              My best score ever!

I'm roxystar68 and I also suffer from PDD. (This is starting to sound like an infomercial.) I have a very critical case of both I Want to Go to Disneyland More Often-itis and PDD. I get this nonstop and I go about once or twice a year. I live an hour away, but my parents aren't crazy like me and they won't drive me there. When I get a car (and a liscence; not from Autopia) I'll try to get an annual pass and go every day I don't have school! It really helps to create a Disney binder (I know I'm absurd) and going on MiceChat is a great remedy. Also, watching videos on VisionsFantastic helps a ton.

                                        4) Insist that the same friends present their Hopper tickets, APs or other valid pass upon entry to your home?

                                        5) If a member of your family has currently got the bathroom occupied, try installing a FASTPASS machine and come back during an appropriate window?
