  • Anyone have Old Dland Souvenier Pens vintage 1980's?

Does anyone who used to frequent the parks back in the late 70's and 80's remember those cool pens you could buy at Dland that had a little object floating in liquid? You would tilt the pen and the little object (such as a Main street trolley) would float back and forth?
I really really miss those souvenirs and am sad that the youth of today does not get to take part in experiencing some of those really cool souvenirs you could find at Dland.

Does anyone have any pictures of those amazing pens?

I have the one with Tinkerbell setting off the fireworks over the castle... I'll see if I can dig it up so I can post a pic.

Awesome! I wish they would still sell pens like these. Does anyone know who manufactured those?

I remember that one. The last time my mom and I went to DL alone (meaning without my kids) she got a couple, but that was like 7 years ago.

Found it! This was one of my favorite souvenirs when I was a kid... in fact, I believe I picked this up on my very first trip to Disneyland, back in 1985:

Thanks for the picture! I really hope they can start selling these again, if anyone has any connections with the Disney merchandising departments please mention this.

I got Lion King and a Winnie the Pooh one. They were the best thing ever in first grade.

Yeah. I got a box out in storage somewhere that has dozens of them going back to the 1960's

They are called "Floaty Pens"...BTW. They are still being made out there, but I guess Disney thinks they are too hokey or something.

I have seen 'em at Disneyland Paris, however.

Just FYI, the technical terms in the trade for these kinds of pens are floaty pens (also known as floating action pens, floating pens, float pens, and tilt pens), and they're very much a collectible. They were invented in Denmark by a pen company called Eskesen.

Google "Disneyland floaty pens" or "Disneyland floating pens" and see what comes up. You'll likely find several collector sites. Also, try eBay every now and then to see if you might find some new stuff (you can also create a general search that lasts for months and emails you every time there's a match that becomes available).

Here's a pic I found of the PeopleMover floaty pen, just for nostalgia's sake:

The old floaty pens were made in Denmark by a company called Eskesen. They are still around making pens. Here is their website in english.

                          Thanks so much for the amazing information! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I really really really hope that Disney merchandising brings these back. They sell so much questionable merchandise that you would think this would be a good item to have at the souvenir stands.
