  • Disneyland Memory - My Moment on Stage at the Golden Horseshoe

The year was 1977, and I was 4 years old. This was one of the many childhood trips to Disneyland, but one of the most memorable.

I was never one to watch shows, because why sit down when there are so many rides? Kids love rides. But, my parents loved the Golden Horseshoe Revue, so I found myself "stuck" for nearly an hour, meanwhile the teacups would be outside spinning without me on them.

But, it became an opportunity for a moment of fame, when the stars asked for a volunteer from the audience, and they chose me! I ran up to the stage in excitement, for I was to assist the show in helping to play an instrument - the trombone.

It was an interesting melody, but eventually I had pulled the slide all the way out, and thought I broke it! However, when the audience started to laugh, I smiled and waved, because I made them laugh.

And thankfully, my dad caught it on film, so I thought I'd share:

Do any of you have wonderful memories from this show?

      Very cool DP. .

I remember when I was around 8 I got called up for the Wally Boag show. He made me hold his wand (get your mind out of the gutter peoples) which promptly fell apart and told me to stand over a trap door. I remember getting a DL extra jumbo lolly pop from doing it, which my parents promptly took away.
      Growing older is manditory
      Growing up is however, optional

I remember watching it with my entire family and eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that was in the shape of mickey mouses head and I was so excited about that.

I am considerably older than my siblings. My sisters and brother are 12-19 years younger than me. Because of this, I am the sister who always took them to Disneyland, and now I am the auntie who takes their kids to Disneyland. One sister has turned out to be a Disney fiend also. My brother has Disney moments, but I didn't take him as often so that may be an issue...

Back in the late 70s early 80s, we took my little sisters and one of them also got to do the trombone thing. I remember it was so much fun for them. They were probably 4-8 years old.
If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.

I loved the show and really miss it.

I found out -- too late -- about the reunion performance of the Golden Horseshoe Revue at the Autry Museum! Man I would have loved to see that!

The show was really corny but all those great slapstick bits during Pecos Bill never failed to get lots of laughs, and everybody would always walk away happy.

I have many wonderful memories of the Golden Horseshoe Review, and still got all my buttons going all the way back to the 1950's:

But one of the funniest things I saw was when one day Wally Boag asked a little tyke to come up on stage and then said:

"Hello there fella. Why don't you come over here a little closer. Stand right there. That's good. Right over the trap door."

And this kid jumped about 5 feet into the air! You should have seen the look on the little guy's face. That kid had quick reflexes! The audience was dying.

Sure miss the old Revue shows.
