One year ago today, Disneyland held a special event in
honor of the 50th Anniversary of The Mickey Mouse Club.
Disneyland welcomed back 10 of the Mouseketeers from the
original run. In addition, nearly 1,000 additional Mickey fans
were invited to join in the celebration and become honorary
Mickey Mouse Club Members!!
We were asked to check in at the front gate of Disneyland
early that morning, wearing black pants and shoes. After
checking in, we were given a black long sleeve shirt, a
Mickey Mouse Club sticker to place on the shirt, a pair
of Black Mickey Mouse ears, and a black plastic pouch,
whick contained a pair of gold pom poms!
The front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle had been preparred
as a stage for us to perform along with 10 of the original
Mickey Mouse Club members!

We were assigned an area to stand, which formed the shape
of the world's largest pair of Mickey Mouse ears ~ with nearly
1,000 people! Then it was time for us to learn our part ~
complete with singing and dancing (well sort of
) As
soon as we knew our part, out came the Original Mouseketeers!
And it was time for us to practice the "show" with the ones
choosen by Walt! (tee hee hee)
Then it was time for the real thing, and for the Orignal Mouseketeers
(and us) to perform the show in front of the Castle. Immediately
afterwards a few photo opps were taken. with the Mouseketeers
in their white shirts down in front.

After the show, the group of nearly 1,000 volunteers herded their
tails and ears through the castle, back to Big Thunder Ranch, where
a breakfast had been preparred for us.
In addition, we were each
presented with an official Mouseketeer Certificate. Later that day,
I made a point of meeting the Mouse, so he could sign the Certificate
in person.

And yes, for all you MMC fans, the Mouseketeers did indeed make their
1st appearance on the Disneyland tv show on July 17th, 1955, but
The Mickey Mouse Club tv show premiered on October 3rd, 1955.
So, Happy 1st Anniversary of your 50th Birthday to the Mickey Mouse
Club!!!!!!
And of all the special memories over the past year, October 3rd
2005, was certainly one of the most special. And yes, on that
date, my Disney Dweebdom was raised to a level that I could have
never imagined!
