Im wondering how many of you guys are happy that the new script is NOT played for laughs and the cruise is now played straight. Im very happy because although some of the jokes were memorable they were too cheesy and corny and made the ride too goofy. Also, some of the skippers (at least in WDW) go way to overboard with how they say the jokes to the point that it becomes annoying. I think the only reason the ride became goofy is because the show and AA's got so outdated that they couldnt be taken seriously anymore. Now with the updates and action packed show scenes I think its good that the ride is now more of an Adventure rather than a comedy. Of course a few jokes remain but for the most part the script is now alot more serious and I think the change was a good idea.

I loved the new Jungle Cruise yesterday, you could tell the skippers were still getting used to their new lines. The first time we rode, we were on a boat with VIP/Media types and so the skipper was a little nervous it seemed, but did well, the second time we had a different skipper and he was great, it was later in the day so he'd had a few more trips to get comfortable. Great update to the attraction.

I rode it twice yesterday, the first one was more serious, but the second CM was great, with lots of corny jokes
Now here is one of MY jokes...
I love the new tribute to Michael Eisner on the Jungle Cruise.... :devil:Check out my Theme Park Photos at http://darkbeer.smugmug.com

I can only speak for the WDW version (can't wait to see the new DLR version next summer) but I am really tired of the bad jokes.
Let me correct that, I'm somewhat tired of the corny jokes, but really tired of the CMs who have no ability to properly deliver the corny jokes. Some of them have no sense of timing and the jokes just don't work. Others do nothing but tell the corny jokes and that's annoying as well. The last time I rode it at WDW every joke had something to do with how horrible it was to work on the Jungle Cruise or at Disney...OK - we get it.
I can't really lay all the blame on the CMs though. It's like the Great Movie Ride - they should audition for the jobs and then give the people some training.

I'm happy about this change too. I can understand how it might initially be perceived negatively, but I think subtleties like this have a larger impact on the disney brand. It dillutes the "Imersion Towards Interesting Illusion". While I always liked hearing the jokes on the jungle cruise, something never quite sat right with me to hear Disney making fun of itself. It's like Diseny saying: "We know this ride isn't fooling anyone, so we're gonna get past that by making bad jokes about it." Isn't that bad show?

I think the best parody of how the Jungle Cruise speech pattern can be found at homestarrunner.com in the Strong Bad email called "Theme Park."
Anyway, I'm glad it's more serious. I want to see the video they had up on MousePlanet! Gahhh!Well, light travels from the sun. Then, bounces off of our planet, and back into our eyes so we can perceive color. My body can intercept that light and dance around on it!

The jokes are gone??? Oh NO!! That was the best part of the attraction, especially with a great skipper. I will now have to relive the old JC in my back yard, "The african elephant can leap over 2000 feet...".Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
Marge: Pink.
Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

There have been too many bad skippers, narration-wise. Disney isn't supposed to be about the "good ride for three out of every five guests."
I'll have to ride this again to check out what's gnu, but I definitely approve of a concept that means no more cries of "bad skipper."See, George Lucas? I'm not the only one! [<-- i.e. this is not my site]

The fact that the script is serious doesn't mean bad skippers will suddenly go away. If they're playing it serious now, and the skipper has lines, it's allegedly supposed to be exciting and entertaining, right? Look at that Strong Bad Email robot pirates pointed out (view it here) - the only thing funny about that script is the horrible delivery.
In the case of Strong Bad it's deliberate, of course, but a "real life" version of that drab lifeless reading of an "adventurous" script is just as easy to get out of an unmotivated cast member as a poorly paced series of jokes.

Given the choice between bad drama and bad comedy, I'll take bad drama any day. Better to get a laugh when you shouldn't than to not get a laugh when you should.See, George Lucas? I'm not the only one! [<-- i.e. this is not my site]

The laughter is gone!
I will withhold judgement until I ride it myself, but I am disappointed. I have to say that the creativity of CM's made that ride great. The corny jokes were fine to me. It made the whole ride. I cannot see how we are supposed to take plastic hippos seriously! I cannot say how it was from the very beginning, but I think that the humor was a necessary part of the show. Walt would have liked the humor. We all know that we really are not in danger and the back side of water really looks a lot like the front side! The ad-libs just made the ride fresh. Let's face it, how many really want to hear the same script every time they ride. We might as well have AA's running the attraction. The fact that every CM is unique, means that the Jungle Cruise was always different every time you rode it.

Hmmm....won't be seeing the new one until the 15th, but I think I'm already going to miss the Classic mood of the old Jungle Cruise. Some of those guys could really deliver a show - when they were allowed to anyway."The old man's gonna knock on the sky. Listen to the sound."
AP'er since 2004. Yup.....I'm one of THEM.
