How is the service/food at this "new" sit-down location? Any recommendations from the menu?

avoid the mickey beignets for dessert...they were like door stops when we had them in august

on the + side, the shrimp salad is great funky presentation, but tasty
Will there be screams when the sun sets,

I recommend you stay away from the seafood crepes, they're horrible. Others in my party had good things to say about the french onion soup and the chicken gumbo.

Service was OKAY, on the slow side and difficult to get drink refills. And they charged one person in our party for the meal TWICE.

Edited to add that we loved the beignets, especially with the creme anglais.

I liked it. Wife got the ceasar salad and I got the monte cristo. Both were good and service was good.

I have had the Monte Cristo and the the blackend Chicken Ceasar. Both were excellent. I would avoid the three cheese monte cristo. It was way too rich. My wife and I love the Pommes Frittes. They are just fries but the dipping sauce is excellent and they put garlic and parmasean cheese on them. I had the beingets in July and they were excellent. Nice and soft. They were still hot from the fryer.

I would like to know what you try. I am going next week and I plan on trying out the crab salad sandwich. It has looked pretty good when I have seen it around.

Interesting as I have seen some good reviews - maybe things have changed. My wife and in-laws went on July 2 and it was not good. The caesar salad was not tossed - which makes for a difficult time because then I had to tear my own greens and then cut my chicken......just was more work than I wanted and I was having some 'hand issues' due to a pinched nerve (I later found) - so having to do all of this was a double chore. We thought the Monte Cristo's had shrunken and it was in the HEAT of the summer and they kept bringing us these 8oz, ice filled goblets of tea and lemonade - so that being said, we were not all that pleased.

It was in it's 'opening time period' - so many the kinks have been worked out.

OH- and there is this LOUD OBNOXIOUS PIRATE STAGE AND SHOW right outside the veranda where many Cafe Orleans guests sit.

              Re: Cafe Orleans

As an aside--most chicken caesar salads are not tossed. They should be served in large chunks, and the customer is supposed to cut the romaine and the chicken.

We'll be there on Saturday for lunch! I want the french onion soup and the shrimp salad!

You were not pleased that they kept bringing you iced drinks on a hot day??

I think his point is that the glasses are pretty small.

I was there for lunch last Wednesday with my mom. We split the garlic fries, which were great.

When Cafe Orleans first opened, they had some service issues, but last week they were really great. Everything was timely and our glasses were never empty.

Everything is good. But people have different tastes, hence why somebody in this thread didn't like the Seafood Crepes. I love the Seafood Crepes.

But the best thing is the Monte Cristo and the Mickey-shaped Beignets. But again, as always, the quality of the food will probably change from day to day.

One day the beignets were really small and the next day they were really big and fluffy. So it depends.

I love the raspberry dipping sauce they have with the Monte Cristo and there's a sweeter raspberry dipping sauce for the beignets which is amazing.

The pomme frittes are great, garlic fries with dipping sauce. The last time I was there the shrimp salad consisted of two skewers of two shrimp stuck into a half head of iceberg in two wedges. The crab salad sandwich was OK and the Monte Cristo was good but, I think smaller than it used to be at the Bayou.

That was me. I have a hard time accepting TUNA, canned tuna at that, as being "seafood". Hell, if you're going to use tuna, at least throw some ahi in there. If they had been called tuna crepes, I wouldn't have ordered them. IMO, BumbleBee Tuna wrapped in a tortilla does not equate with a "seafood crepe". Not only is it low rent eating, it's false advertising.

Also, they made my mouth itch. Swear to god. And I'm not the only one. When we were there for dinner, someone at the table behind us mentioned to his family "Hey, these crepes are making my mouth itch". I look behind me and sure as ****, he's eating tuna crepes.

They're just wrong I tell you, wrong.

Yes, because when it's 100 degrees and humid, you finish the glass before the server walks away.......so you have to wait forever for a refill. Not efficient.

The only other place I have been where the caesar salad was not tossed was "The Porch" at House of Blues in West Hollywood. And I didn't like that either.

Where was it written that 'caesar salads are not tossed'?

I don't know where it's written, but I have been to several restaurants where the Caesar salad contains untossed and uncut full leaves of romaine. Though the vast majority of restaurants serve a cut and tossed Caesar, it is not an uncommon practice.

I suppose. It wouldn't have been a huge issue had I had been having hand problems that day and if it hadn't been 100+ degrees outside and if we had more than an 8oz glass of 'drink' at one serving and if there weren't these SCREAMING MICROPHONED pirates just on the other side of our table.

It was a bad experience for us all around the board. Probably an exclusive experience, and then maybe not.
