Saturday was the day...
Saturday was the day that we took the plunge and became Premium Passholders! Thanks to my employees that gave me a ton of Disney Dollars and Gift Certificates, we applied that towards Premium Passes for the family, even Grandma got one.
Saturday was also the day that I got to finally meet Hyperbole, Fastpassmountain, Thejoshualee and Elizabeth, and Mike (Mcow1), as well as Thedarklady and Speederscout. Of course, it was great to see some old friends, like Dustysage and Fishbulb, PixieChick (sorry I had to run!), Grumpy4 and MissChristine, Crazylegs and CaptainPhoebus, akdisneyfan, Sadako, Darkbeer and Deogee's Mom, judimouse, Morrigoon, Chernabog, SusieP, Disneyphile, Al Lutz, and all the other great friends I've made on this board.
We had spent all evening in the park the Friday before, and our legs were sore, but we still did our best on the Quest, and came back Sunday to see Golden Screams and the Jedi Academy.
Speaking of the Quest, for those that weren't there, you received a package with an astrolabe containing a hidden mickey, numbers, and astrological symbols (astrology -- aggh!), a scoresheet, instructions, and the questions.
You were told that you had to use all of the materials to solve the questions, and then return for your "ENDGAME" envelope. We were given a hotline number to call, and the game's writer, Phil, was also on hand to answer procedural questions. And with instructions not to separate your teams, not to run, and to make sure that you follow the early instructions (regarding labelling the astrolabe) VERY carefully, them the challenge was on!
The entire game took place in Tomorrowland, and was entitled "The Riddle of the Astrogate." The first part of the instructions again reminded us to place instructions on the coordinates chart, and indicated that we should write all answers in the appropriate line on the chart. The first assignment then took us to the Astro Orbitor, and instructed as follows:
You will write 12 numbers on your Astrolabe 1 through 12, although not in order.
Locate one of the symbols and write the number three, and then looking at the astro orbitor, walk clockwise and number the matching symbols on the astrolabe tool, according to the order in which they appear on the base of the astro orbitor.
While doing this we ran into some members of the Gumball rally finishing up their rides, which was fun. Once we had the device calibrated, it was on to the questions:
1. Add the letters of menu items and the individual single digits of their prices (each LETTER counts as one). Find the menu food item and price that has a combined total of 34. Write the menu item on line 10 of the coordinates chart.
2. (Difficult) Your journey takes you to a large, heavily cratered moon. On the way in you pass by several orbiting space stations. How many stations do you pass? Spell out the answer on line 2.
3. Sources report that a Dr. Channing may be able to help with research assistance. Locate the facility of which he is the chairman and write its name on line 7 of the chart.
4. A massive interstellar construction project is reportedly underway near the moon of Endor. Travel there and spell out the call name of the second rebel pilot identified on line 5.
5. (Difficult) The alien's artifact "sphere" of influence is beginning to wrap around time itself. Write the name on the sign that shows evidence of this effect on line 1.
6. Find a large "chart" of Earth's solar system and locate the fifth planet from the left of the chart. Write the planet's name on line 3.
7. Yet another scientist has offered his assistance to your quest. See a demonstration of his dimensional duplicator and spell out the highest setting on this device on line 9.
8. (Difficult) History records that tourists could once view America from an orbiting space station. Write the name of the establishment that still features an indoor public notice of this amazing experience on line 12.
9. Interstellar passengers arriving from one particular spaceport are greeted in multiple languages, and must have their papers ready. What is the second English phrase at this checkpoint?
10. Photos have been detected radiating from a circular set of sixteen columns in your vicinity of space. Find and identify these structures. How many identical rings are features on each one? Spell out the number on line 4.
11. The space/time distortions are throwing off your scanners and now you need to recalibrate them. Find a sign that features a horizontal display of the primary colors. On line 8 right th enam eof the color on the right.
12. Without even riding a rocket, you view a rainbow-hued nebula floating in space, while a spiral galaxy sits silently to the right. Write the name of the primary color of the galaxy on line 6.
Then it was off for our Endgame. It was a jigsaw/survivor type word scramble that asked for a numerical answer, which ended up being a very significant year for Tomorrowland.
While we were running around, you could not only see other teams, but the fireworks went off with the matterhorn in the foreground. Beautiful, and I don't usually watch the fireworks from Tomorrowland.
I'll also note that we missed the first showing of Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and then missed the clue in that awful movie, and we almost had to watch it twice.
What a great day - one of the most memorable days I've ever spent in Disneyland!
