The food lines were horrible. I waited an hour in line and some of the cash registers weren't even open. I'm surprised a riot didn't break out. The problem was caused by the poor planning and not getting enough staff on hand to open all of the cash registers at the various food centers around Disneyland.

Welcome to the world of restructured food services. Anyone following this time bomb knows this new CM structure isn't going to work. This is frobably the beginning of the implosion of this concept. As frustrating as it is for us guests, I think it couldn't come at a better time... Bring back the leads, and push personal empowerment. Give people the ability to work, and a reason to be proud of the job they do, and everything will be fine. Have patience, my friends. It'll happen...Honor those who fall under the sword.
But pity the warrior who has slain all his enemies.

Funny you should mention this... about a month ago my girlfriend and I were eating at a place in Fullerton and overheard a DL foods service castmember talking to some guys in another booth. She was complaining about the current plight of employees in her department and mentioned that her and a whole lot of fellow co-workers scheduled for the 5th were planning on strategically not showing up for work that day. It sounded like something that had been organized parkwide. Of course she could have just been blowing steam...

As I have said in the past, blame Mary Niven, VP of Food and Beverage. She is the last remaining holdout from the Cynthia Harris regime and she needs to go. Anybody who is unhappy with the food service at Disneyland should email her your concerns:
[email protected]
You should see the health violations in the park and when confronted, the workers say "I know, but this is the way I was trained". A number of them have told me they are doing whatever they can to have her fired.
For the record, I am not a cast member but an angry guest who has been ripped off by Ms. Niven on a private function at Disneyland. After denying I was overcharged, they had their in-house attorney threaten. When that did not work, they admitted they were wrong and asked me to sign a four page release to get the money they OWE me, I declined. They are now trying to buy my silence for a few lousy dollars!
Press releases regarding her conduct (and others within the resort) are being sent out in the coming weeks. Hopefully they will wake up to her antics and get rid of her soon!

It would really surprise me if employees went on "strike" today. I mean yea I understand their frustration at the situation- but most employees would be both thrilled to work a historic day like today- and also not want to hurt the disney image on an important day. I know I wouldn't if I were still there.
But then again- I wouldn't be surprised.

I really hope they make it special for the July 17th celebration by repaving Main Street with fresh asphalt, to recreate the Opening Day atmosphere. My fondest memory of Walt Disney was the day Disneyland opened....I was standing next to him - I was 12 years old - he was looking at the gate where people were coming through, he had his hands behind his back, he had a grin from ear to ear, but you could see the lump in his throat and the tear coming down his cheek because his dream had been realized. -- Mouseketeer Sharon Baird, "Mouseke-Memories", Walt Disney Treasures: The Mickey Mouse Club

Angry and loudmouthed patrons. Don't forget to mention how you have already aired your concerns on the Internet and many of your literate and loudmouthed friends have done the same

There has been MANY days when I went to the park on a slow day and the longest line I waited in all day long was for food. One day that sticks out is the longest wait for a ride was 25 minutes (Peter Pan) and the wait for food - from getting in line to sitting down was 56 minutes, yes - 56 minutes. :monkey: And this was about 2 months ago.

Last time that happened to us, we asked to speak with a manager and got our food for free as well as desserts.

The new Line Scheduling has caused a LOT of turmoil in the Foods department, and a lot of it has to do with how folks were classified. The DCA folks got a "higher" classifcation since they were given a specific job title, while the Disneyland Park folks had a more generic title.... This was a major part of the problems, as when they went to line scheduling, it is designed to give folks the "specific" job they were assigned to....
I hope they can find a solution soon.....Check out my Theme Park Photos at http://darkbeer.smugmug.com
