I think DL may be a little busier than normal due to Halloweentime. When I was there on Monday the park was busy and they extended the operating hours from 8 to 9.
In my experience, October during the week is pretty empty. Most people are in school and at work.
"I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. "Groucho Marx
I was there this morning (Wednesday), and it seemed incredibly busy on Main Street and in the bag check and entrance lines. However, the lines for most rides didn't seem that long. I do believe that lots of people are anxious to "check out" the new Halloweentime decor...

We keep passing each other on Wednesdays. I was the weird looking guy in the hawaiian shirt taking pictures.
Of course, that could describe half of the park....
Some people oppose Columbus Day, claiming his achievements are not worthy of a holiday. The modern-day legend of Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America is due to Washington Irving. His "biography" of Columbus, a dramatic and embellished account, was so popular it became accepted as fact. Historically, Columbus was not the first to discover America, nor was he the first European to land at America, though he was probably the first European to successfully bring European culture to the Americas. There is also controversy surrounding the treatment of the native people of the Americas by Columbus and by Spanish conquistadors.
And it gets worse, as people, whose ancestors have been here for over 500 years, are still critical of celebrating this day, even though without Europeans, most of these critics wouldn't be here today. Others would be here instead, perhaps more of Russian descent as they eventually would have made their way down from what we know today as Alaska. And the New World might be more West-Coast-oriented than East-Coast-oriented.
I say, Bah! to them. We're all here today because of our past. Don't condemn it, but learn from it.
I also say Bah! to Columbus Day, because it's not such a big deal. Italians who are insecure about themselves might beat their chests over it, but that's more a personal problem. (Disclaimer: I'm part-Italian, but I'm over this "source of pride.")

I was also there on Monday and it was super crowded.
I was there last Thursday and it was nearly empty. They were letting people stay on Buzz as long as they wanted, Space Mountain was 5 minutes in the middle of the day.

This is what I'm hoping for. Seeing as the weekend before I'm there is Columbus Day and if there are crowds it should be then.
Edit:
There should be a web site where you can report the crowds that you experienced when you were at DL. Have a scale from 'empty' to 'crazy busy' and have the site average out ratings and use them to predict crowds. Also you could put in special events or holidays that were going on ie: 'There was a cheerleader convention this day', or 'It was Thanksgiving today'.
