  • Fall Trips to DLR 101 - A Beginners Guide

    Ok, I'm taking my youngest brother (22) to DLR in a few weeks, he has never been there. We'll be there on a Fri & Sat. Can you guys please give me some ideas on anything special to do (On a normal day there, there are tons of options). Is there anything you can do now at DLR that you can't during other seasons?

    I'm not sure of all the Halloween type events, etc. to partake in.

    Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Haunted Mansion Holiday would be a must see as far as seasonal offerings go... other than that you have some characters in Halloween costumes, and Woody's Halloween roundup at Big thunder ranch.

    Over at DCA you have the "Villains Lair" at golden dreams theater, and the Halloween overlay at Tower of Terror.

    I think that's all there is for halloween stuff (in addition to the cool decorations)

      You said in a few weeks. When exactly are you going? Halloweentime is only this month (obviously!) and the Holiday season will start around the first week of November.

        Sorry, good point. We will be there Oct. 20 & 21st.

        Does anyone know if Bengal Barbecue is still open? I heard they might be closing, but never heard about it again.

        Thanks!!!!!!

            Bengal BBQ is still open. You should also see the following:

            1. The Main Street Pumpkin Festival, which shows at 1015, 11am, 1215, 115pm, 425, and 540pm.

            2. The new and improved Flag Retreat Ceremony, which is at 5pm daily.

            3. Woody's Halloween Roundup, which is daily at Big Thunder Ranch, from 10am to 7pm.

            4. The Jedi Training Academy, which is at 11, 12, 1, 230, 330, and 430 daily.

            Over in DCA, you should catch Golden Screams (although only once), at any of the following times:

            1150, 1250, 210, 330 and 5pm. Be sure to be there at least 30 minutes before, as these have been filling up quickly; and

            See Halloween Storytelling usually the last hour that DCA is open in front of the Tower of Terror.

                That would make you scream! Golden Screams is in the theater formerly known as Golden Dreams, and while waiting in line, a cast member asks people to scream and records their opinions on your scream. As you enter the theater, and a live cheesy MC informs you that you're part of an academy awards(tm) type show where an award will be given to the baddest Disney villain.

                If you were in the show I was in, the DVD player then breaks down for 20 minutes, and just says "Tascam DVD Player". Once fixed, they show clips of Disney villains from the evil queen in Snow White, up to Ursula in The Little Mermaid, and then show you clips from the six finalists, and ask you to vote by yelling among the following:

                1. The evil queen from Snow White;
                2. Stromboli from Pinocchio;
                3. Malificent from Sleeping Beauty;
                4. Captain Hook from Peter Pan;
                5. Chernabog from Fantasia; and
                6. Another one I can't remember (!)

                The MC then informs you that it's close, and asks the magic mirror from Snow White to decide -- and the magic mirror indicates that someone in the audience actually is the best villain, based on their scream.

                The kid from the audience pre-selected comes up, gets a prize (in my showing it was a pin set), and then applause, interrupted when one of the villains shows up in person, and says that they were robbed of a prize.

                Shock, then laughter, then applause, and then it's over, and you get to meet and greet villains outside the theater.

                  It's always acceptable and customary to get one's younger brother piss drunk and take them upon the tea cups. It really adds a beautiful night time element. Colorful!

                          Don't worry, some things are sacred to me, I would never go to DLR with alcohol. I have never been on the teacups either, it doesn't look so good... So fear not, little Frecky, you and the other good people who ride the Teacups will be safe from my brother's emesis.

                              Thanks, will do. I know he will love the rides, like INDY, SM, etc.

                              I wonder how crazy it will be on Fri and Sat during Oct?

                              Any guesses? I suppose I could always do DLR on the busy day, and DCA on the slower day.

                                A couple years ago (well 4 really, so thats not a couple...anyway) we took my daughter on a Friday at the end of Oct and it wasnt too bad. It got busier later in the day (when people got out of school and off work) though.

                                  Hmm. Maybe it won't get too crazy and we won't need to be too strategic after-all. I guess the trick is to get there ASAP in the morning and make the most of it, while it's not out of control.

                                  I wonder if it would be nutty to leave in like Friday morning at 2:00 am, get there at 8, be there for the opening, then go to the hotel, nap and come back at night?

                                  What time does the DTD parking lot open? I think the first six hours are free if validated, but I'm not sure.

                                  Does anyone have the AP website where you can get a two-day park hopper for $20 off?

                                    I really dont think it will be too bad. Its the off season right now, so the crowds shouldnt be too terrible.

                                      Please consider doing what I do every trip. Stand in the middle of Main Street and continuously twirl around with your arms extended. Do this for 4 minutes, then enjoy the results.

                                      Also, don't miss the Men's Room by the entrance to Adventureland. I'm there most days between 10 AM and Closing. Can't wait to see you!!
