  • Miceage in the OC Register

So I was reading the Orange County REgister this morning while eating breakfast and I noticed a little blurb in the Local section of the paper about Tom Sawyer's Island possibly changing it's theme. I already knew this from reading miceage and micechat but imagine my surprise when they mention miceage and name Al Lutz as a source!!

The Disney watchdog Web site, miceage.com, reported Wednesday that the island, which began in 1956, will be updated. Disneyland officials refused to confirm or deny the news.
In 2003, Disneyland rehabilitated many of the island's features to make them safer, said Al Lutz, the Web site's editor.
"The island is just a shadow of what it used to be," he said.
Lutz said executives, who cashed in on movies based on the Disneyland pirate ride, are pushing for the island makeover in time for the third movie's release next year.
"I think they are just reacting to the marketplace," Lutz said.

    My best score ever!

Who knew out of all of the stuff that Al has posted over the years that Lindsay Lohan and TSI would be the biggest attention getters.

You never know what is going to touch a nerve with the non-Disney crazed people out there. I have to admit that I can't remember what it is like not to be obsessed with the parks, so it is hard to tell what the regular people think is important.

To me, the bigger news items were the changes set for DCA, Monorail, Hotels, etc. But you don't see the media outlets picking up on that part of Al's update. Perhaps they didn't know how to get to page 2

I mentioned part of this somewhere else yesterday that when I was driving to work, they were talking about this on the radio and how hardcore Disneyland fans were really upset about this and one of the DJs made the comment that "maybe those people need to oh i dont know.....get lives?"
God forbid that people are passionate about something that he doesnt care about, right?

The news media are at least smart about one thing - they know what's going to rile the public up. And this, trust me, is going to rile the public up. Disneyland traditionalists are going to be furious, if they aren't already. This is effectively on par with Moses rewriting the Ten Commandments to suit his own needs better.

Hint for the suits: don't mess with Walt's memory. If it wasn't for that one man, none of you jerks would even be in the positions you're in today. Don't be like Eisner or Pressler, where we can't wait to see you gone and we breathe a sigh of relief when you finally are. Be like Walt, where the world cries real tears when you're gone.

Ahh, welcome to the 21st century. "I can be passionate about something that's out of the ordnary, but you can't!"

Still, it's interesting that the (to me) so-so news of a TSI change has been picked up in so many places.

I did have to laugh when they said they got the story off TMZ.

I have been reading all of this news, and I always come back to one thought, and I don't mean this negatively. I will believe it when I see it. I know that not everything that you read, or hear is fact. It is sometimes difficult to sort out fact from rumor. I do know that for many people none of this really matters in the grand scheme of things. For people who frequent the park, and frequent websites such as MiceChat each day because we can't frequent the park as much as we like, the changes being discussed are important. Once Disneyland, and all things Disney gets in your heart and soul, it's hard not to care. It's difficult to not want the best of the magical place that we visit. Some people just don't get it, and they never will.

An article in the LA Times was published, and also KROQ Dj's 106.7 announced it as well. Wow Mr. Lutz, you attracted quite a crowd. I didn't know the media checked up on this site.

I heard it on NPR this morning, but I read it on Miceage first

In the last couple of years, I've seen Miceage folk and those from at least one other site quoted from time to time over the past couple of years at least...that's how I found out about this site.
