  • Now that the Opening 50th Celebration is over, and the media has left . . .

Now that the Media has their story, the opening celebration is over,
and the new attractions, Monster Inc and Turtle Talk have been announced, what happens next?

We've seen some nice last minute polish ups over the past year, in preparation for Disneyland's 50th. Among those Block Party at DCA, the new parade at DL to replace the 5 year old 45th Birthday Parade, hearing the announcement of Monsters Inc. replacing Superstar Limo, Turtle Talk replacing the Walt movie in the Animation Building, A new fireworks with great special effects replacing the Believe fireworks show, upgrades to Jungle, HM, and Space Mt, and filling in vacant attraction building with Astro Blasters

BUT surprisingly No Nemo Announcement has been made yet, and DL is now in it's longest dry spell of no new E-Ticket in the history. Yes, DCA may have received an E- Ticket with Tower of Terror, but DCA is DCA. DL still needs a new E Ticket. Of course TL still need a LOT of help, even AFTER Space/Rock It Mt re-opens.

After Space Mt opens, will the financing to DL be reduced to nothing? Will we really see the new Subs open? Will we really get a new People Mover? Or were the $$$'s just spent to make DL look all nice for the media the last 2 days and now go back to the "no e ticket for you" attitude that we have seen the past ten years? Or will the changes we've seen over the past year continue with a New DL Ticket, and a GRAND plan for turning DCA around?

Even after seeing the new parade at DL, and Block Party at DCA, a couple special effects at HM and Jungle, and a new fireworks show, Without the announcement of a project to replace the Subs, when one was promise to be complete by 2003, it really is a cause for concern.

I'm not that concerned. SubNemo is happening, they just wanted to have something to announce on 7/17.

One thing that will be interesting is the upcoming rehab for Pirates of the Caribbean this Fall. It's two months long, and with the recent positive reaction to the Tiki, Haunted Mansion, and Jungle Cruise rehabs I suspect that some new show effects will be in order.

Is the date for the start of the PotC rehab set? I've seen it mentioned on other boards as October 3.
Gack! That's our first day in the park! I'm going to have to upgrade to Passes to add another day - Oct. 2nd. Hubby can just go to gay days for a few hours and Deal with it!

        Aladdin is right.

I think that for the long term, one should be concerned. I think that they have to look farther down the line than just this next year. After this 18 month celebration is over, what is going to draw people to the park? New E ticket attractions have always been the time-tested way to increase attendance. I would like to see something new at the park, not just an import from some place else. Why not a new ride that has NO connection with a movie or cartoon?

I do not see a "restored" peoplemover, or "restored" Space Mountain or "restored" submarine ride as really a new attraction. :monkey:

After seeing the crowd yesterday, me thinks DL is still #1. Don't worry, be happy!

Are you talking #1 in the Dis theme park league or #1 in So Cal? Cuz I don't think there's ever been a moment when any of the other So Cal theme parks have held a candle to DL.

While you're right... these may be your "new" E-tickets for awhile. They're dumping a ton of money into these rehabs just to get Disneyland back to equilibrium.

I am actually wondering if it is in fact a Finding Nemo sub ride. I mean the photo mosaic on top of TLT depicting 20k. Now with Turtle Talk announced for DCA it doesn't really seem likely they would have two Nemo type attractions. Although Turtle Talk isn't an Attraction in the literal since of a ride, but rather attracts people to see it. Are there any other films that boast multiple rides or attractions in the parks? I can't think of any.

The teaser on the construction wall makes it pretty clear that this is Nemo themed...the movie did make over a billion dollars worldwide after DVD sales. The only reason more wasn't announced yesterday was to avoid overshadowing Space Mountain, but we know Nemo, a new PeopleMover, moving of the Astro Orbitor, a replacement for the motorboat cruise, and something back on Big Thunder Trail are all in the works to break ground within the next 5 years or so...not to mention inevitable expansion at DCA with a new E-Ticket. I don't think DL necessarily needs any blockbuster E-Tickets for the time being--it already has a LOT of E-Tickets--more than any other Disney park. They need to work on replacing attractions that have closed in recent years and sprucing up the older E-Tickets, which they are. The results have been quite encouraging. No one wants to see Disneyland looking like construction wall land again during the 50th, so of course they aren't going to start all of these projects now, and they won't announce projects before they are ready to begin. If they announced a new PeopleMover now, saying it'll open in 3 years, people will expect something incredible due to the 3 year construction period, even though they would realisticly be building it for 18 months, just not starting til the 50th is over. This would lead to higher expectations than would ever really be fulfilled, so there's no reason to do that.

I think the carousel is part of Sleeping Beauty, because it has mosaics on the carousel from the movie.

Yeah, from what I've seen on other boards the rehab is scheduled for 10/3 to 12/12.
