I keep hearing references to "outside mechanics" being used at Disneyland (it was even in the DOSH report on the Big Thunder Mountain accident). Does anyone know if Disney is using non-Park mechanics to perform their ride maintenance?

Re: Outside Mechanics
Regarding the trains, outside contractors have often been used for major rebuilding (outside help was used with the Lilly Belle, the Ward Kimball, the trackwork upgrades of a couple years ago and a major overhaul of the E.P. Ripley). Howver, most daily maintenance is performed by Disney staff.

Re: Outside Mechanics
There are so such thing as an outside mechanic, we are called outside machinist's. The outside machinst takes care of the rides at at night and the inside machinist's make parts. The 1st and 2nd shift machinists (like me) are called response machinist.
We DO NOT use outside people to work on the rides we are union.
