  • An idea for Critter Country & Tom Sawyer's Island

Since I don't actually visit the forums here, but more of the news/photo posts on miceage, forgive me if anyone has already mentioned this:

The proposed plan as I have heard is that Critter Country will be switched to either the Hundred Acre Wood or Villain's Forest, and Tom Sawyer Island will become Jack Sparrow's Island.

First off, I agree that Critter Country is in need of a rehaul, made livelier, and should have throngs of people crowding it every day. Secondly, as sad as I am to see Tom Sawyer Island changed, as it was an original of Walt's, has been around seemingly forever, and pays a tribute to such a classic...

    But, I digress.

Alright, here is the plan: Disney needs a land that speaks to the kids. From what I have gathered, Toon Town is not doing to job, and Fantasyland has dark rides that a lot of toddlers and such are scared to go on. Hundred Acre Wood fills need. Every kid at least knows about Winnie the Pooh and his friends. There's a different character to cover all the most obvious qualities of a personality for a child. Which is why the story resonates so well and has lasted as long as it has. Critter Country should become Hundred Acre Wood, as it already has the woodsy animal theme down, so it would by theoretically lest costly. I also think that the Winnie the Pooh ride that is already there is a draw for that land, so, you take the entire land, and just run with the theme! It draws the entire land together, gives it a balance, and guests will actually feel like they are in the story, surrounded by the characters...and I think that will put smiles on plenty of faces!

Now, I also think that the idea of a Villain's Forest is awesome! It reaches out to the teens and 20 somethings who like the villains and cool affects more! Why do you think the store 'Le Bat n Rouge' is always full? I think that the Villain's Forest should be on Tom Sawyer Island, and now called Villain's Island or Forest or some sort of nom de plume that will work. I mean, I love pirates/Jack Sparrow/Pirates of the Caribbean as much as the ext fan, but, there is already a ride, already a pirate ship, and already pirates 'taking over' New Orlean Square! Do we also need to have an entire island? I don't think so...if need be, to tie in the pirate/villain theme, have one the Pirate Ship Columbia become the Jolly Roger, and you get to see few minute long show put on staring Captain James Hook, possibly battling Peter Pan or someone else from that story. But, the island become the villain's home creates a 'spooky' atmosphere to a 'mysterious land surrounded by water' feel. There could be an evil witch's castle atop the boulders, poisoned apple orchard, primitive etchings of Scar in the caves...etc. Not to mention, Mickey has to battle all the bad guys over there during 'Fantasmic!', so why not have them live there?

Well, anyway...those are just my ideas! Hope you enjoyed them!

    Hundred Acre Wood? Villian's Forrest?

Where'd you hear this all from?

As far as I know, we've only heard of revamps for Tom Sawyer's Island to turn into a Pirate Cove...

Not sure how I feel about those. I can see Hundred Acre Woods working pretty well for Critter Country. Don't know how I feel about it though. I think all Critter Country really needs is a show. There's food, shopping, E-ticket, kid ride... they just need a good show to tie it all together back there.

Although now I've got the Pooh song stuck in my head. Thanks for that.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

Re: An idea for Critter Country & Tom Sawyer's Island

I think Critter Country needs less Pooh. I love the characters, but the Pooh stuff that's already there makes me feel cheated...looks cheap and a bad gimmick to make people buy stuff. Of course, that was out of the Harris/Pressler era, so things could be different...it all depends.

I don't see why Splash Mountain should be ousted out of it's own country. That really doesn't make sense to me. It's the one big E-ticket the area has, and it's one of the biggest E-ticket in the park on the whole.

Yeah, Critter Country needs some help, but I don't think that more Pooh (possibly hitting the fan) will get the job done (tweak the attraction that's currently there to be as cool as it is overseas and it would be appreciated more I think). I like mycroft16's suggestion...don't really know what would physically fit in the area, though.

A Villian's land would be cool, but I don't think it would work for TSI. It's the theming that we have to concern ourselves with here...even if it is a forrest, Hades' blue flaming hair poking out of the trees is going to cause visual confusion.

                1) I'm a part of that LJ community, and I think I commented on that entry, heh.

                2) I personally think the idea of a Villain themed land is pretty awesome, I don't think an entire land (or, island) should be dedicated to them.

Re: An idea for Critter Country & Tom Sawyer's Island

I personally liked it back when the area was Bear Country. Now, don't get me wrong, Splash Mountain is a great ride ... and it still would fit in with the Bear Country theme as well.

I don't think that putting more attractions and such in that area would be a good idea though. As it is there are a lot of people coming and going through there ... so why add to the congestion. Especially because there is only one way to get in and out of there. If they do any revamping of CC they should also try and open up the space a bit more.

Plus, if they made it into a Villain themed area it would put a good number of teenagers in that part of Disneyland. As it is you have a good set of rides teens want to get on (POTC, HM, SM).

I really don't like these ideas, sorry. A villains land is a great idea, but where you're or whoever is proposing it, it's ridiclious.

Why change Critter Country into Hundred Acre Wood?? Where does that put Splash Mountain??

They should redo Pooh like Tokyo's version. And like mycroft16 suggested, add a show. SO probably reconfigure Hungry Bear so it could fit a restaurant and show or a show inside the restaurant... And bring out Brer Rabbit, Fox, and Bear more often. Like make the Pooh & Friends meet-n-greet themed better to allow the Brers and Pooh & Friends have meet-n-greet in that area. Perhaps configure the M-n-G to have an outdoor show, but I prefer the restaurant/show thought.

Re: An idea for Critter Country & Tom Sawyer's Island

Critter Country is practically the 100 acre wood already. They don't need to rename it for the sake of renaming it. They can certainly make Pooh a better ride that will attract more repeat buisness. Heck, they can even add poor Eeyore to the birthday part at the very end at least.

As for a villains thing... mmm... that might be something better to implement into DCA or something like that. There's no REAL logical reason to have a land devoted to the villains anyway because each villain is different and can belong in any of the various lands. You're not going to have Maleficent in Critter Country. She belongs in Fantasyland. Poacher Percival McLeach from Rescuers Down Under doesn't belong in Fantasyland... he goes in well... i guess Adventureland.

The point is, the villains, like every other Disney character are a wide body of personalities that don't necessarily belong together. I can see them doing something bigger in the future using the villains with "halloweentime" but a land devoted to them isn't an idea that would work to Disney's best interest.
