I have a quick question about Pirates...I have heard before that the skull on the headboard of the captain's quarters is actually a real skull. It is supposedly the skull of an imagineer who requested it before his passing (sounds a little off). That is why it looks different than the rest of the skulls (I suppose). Any truth to this or is it just an urban legend?

Re: A question about POTC...
I dont know about it being the skull of an imagineer, but i have heard of the skull being authentic. Kind of creepy, but it gets to watch over the captain's quarters. My campus elevator smells like burned hair and won't drop faster than the pull of gravity, no matter how much I scream.

Re: A question about POTC...
All of the skeletons in PotC were real, initially. In the '60s, it was much cheaper to buy medical cadavers than to synthesize complete skeletons. They were eventually replaced, except for the skull and crossbones over the captain's bed, which are actual human remains.
The bit about it being a late Imagineer is pure myth, though. Hadn't heard that one before.

The "real skull" item comes up on lots of web sites about Disneyland secrets, but I don't know if it has been (or even can be) confirmed by anyone official.

Re: A question about POTC...
I was told about the real skull by an imagineer at an event I attended (sorry, can't remember the name or which event -- I have a wife to remember these things for me, but she's not here at the moment). He said that the headboard was actually purchased as-is, real bones included.

Re: A question about POTC...
Thanks for answering. Now that you mention it I remember reading that all the skulls were real at once, but switched out (I think the reason I read was there were complaints). Anyway, thanks for answering, now I can finally stop wondering when I ride POTC all the time!

Re: A question about POTC...
This doesn't creep anyone out?
WHOSE bones are those? Someone they just found on the side of the road? A John Doe? When the morgue was done with them, they just shipped what was left of him off to DISNEYLAND??
No DNA testing back then.
Hmmm....I wonder if they could determine that now. He could be my uncle Ernie. To view more of my photos, please visit: William McIntosh PhotographyMac Daddy's Autumn, 2011 Photo Thread
