What about all that Disney-owned undeveloped property near the resort?

Every time I visit Disneyland I look wistfully at all this open space that is being used for pretty much nothing. The naive person inside of me wonders why this isn't being immediately renovated into some other Disney park, while the businessman inside of me understands that securing and using prime real estate like that is not always as easy as it seems.

So my question is, are there any plans for this property by Disney Imagineers that have been hinted at and that I have missed?

And more importantly, should I believe my hotel shuttle drivers who tell me that we will be seeing a new Disney theme park there very soon?

From what I gather, it is in consideration to be a 'third gate', but Disney is more interested at the moment in making DCA a success.
Disneyland Paris faces a similar dillemna; wanting to install a third park but, since they did the second on the cheap, forcing themselves to work on it instead.

Yup, that extra space was meant for a third gate IF and WHEN their 2nd Gate was a smash success like Eisner thought it'd be.

The original rumored thoughts were to build a water park for the third gate...like Typhoon Lagoon. But, as it's already been stated, DCA was
a flopping success; so everything's on the back burner.

I can't imagine that making much money during the winter. Florida's climate is more suitable for year round water parks. What happened to the Westcot idea?

I would like them to build an economy version of the Disneyland Hotel there .. same Disney magic, but for a lot less ..

In short: it was too big, neighbors complained and protested, it was scrapped, new plans for a smaller park were apparently approved, and it sucks.
The undeveloped land is a good size for a hotel. Too bad a hotel takes up about 33% of the old parking lot instead of its being used for the theme park.

It's my own personal theory that the original plans were probably for something along the lines of Tokyo Disneysea; most of the anecdotal accounts say that castmembers would say that it was going to be 'some kind of waterpark'. Based on that, you could argue that Disneysea is some kind of waterpark because its themed entirely around water.

I agree with the majority. Eisner opened up DCA, which is failing in attendance as it is. The last thing Disney needs is another theme park at the moment. They need to focus on re-inventing DCA.
