  • Disneyland over Thanksgiving?

I know this is a stupid question, but what is Disneyland like on Thanksgiving and the day after? I'm pretty sure it's packed like sardines, but just to be sure I thought I'd post a message to see if anyone here has had experience at the resort over the holiday. Let me know, as we'll be down in Anaheim for Thanksgiving and are thinking of spending a day at DL/DCA.

    Thanks!

I've heard that it's practically walk on for Thanksgiving and the following day. I heard that from a CM last year on POTC. I may just have to go and check it out this year.

I'd take a Mouse over a Turkey any day of the week.

Very busy. As a general rule, the more people that don't have to work or go to school, the busier DL will be. DCA might not be so bad. And, no, the old, "Well, everyone will think that it will be too crowded, so they won't go" line of thinking doesn't apply to DL. It's DL. End of discussion.
(And do note that the old, "Everyone is doing something else, so it won't be crowded," line of thinking doesn't work, either. Everyone is supposed to be shopping on the day after Thanksgiving? Yeah, a lot of them do it at DL! Everyone is supposed to be watching the Super Bowl on SB Sunday? No, it's also crowded at DL on that day.)

As with any busy day at DL, get there early, hit attractions that you do not want to miss ASAP, abuse, er use FastPass, then enjoy the rest of the day.

          Re: Disneyland over Thanksgiving?

We've stayed at the Resort for Thanksgiving for the past four years and I can personally say that the Park will be very busy on T-Day and crazy busy on friday and saturday.

We usually go into the park on T-Day for a few hours to enjoy the surroundings, watch the Parade with the pardoned turkeys and maybe catch a few rides. But a 45 minute wait just to board the train was a bit too much. Most of the day is spent strolling through the shops in DTD, enjoying the Buffet at the DL Hotel, and catching a flick in the theatre.

We go elsewhere on the friday and saturday, and then enjoy the Park on sunday through thurday. Then back home.

Try doing a search. You'll find plenty of T-Day threads with good information about the Parks and the crowds. (recent ones, too)

          Enjoy!

Based on 40-plus years of Disneyland experience as a guest and employee, The Thanksgiving weekend (especially Friday and Saturday) is very, very busy.

The holiday itself is very busy too. I usually always worked on Thanksgiving Day (holiday pay, you know) and would prepare literally thousands of turkey dinners for the Bayou and French Market and the like...and then would go home to face....uhh...turkey.

DisneyLies has an interesting take on that graphic:

Disneyland Resort, Park Attendance: lies, unsubstantiated rumors, mangled urban legends, ridiculous half-truths, and just plain made up stuff

                    Re: Disneyland over Thanksgiving?

If you go on Turkey Day, go early! Last year, we were there and they closed the gates around 10:30 and the Friday after as well. People were crazy too. One mother went to get her kids their sweaters and the CM would not let her back in and she became hysterical!! No, not a good scene, unless you would be just as happy at DCA, get there early. We are going again this year but leaving Wed night instead just to avoid the giant crowds.
