  • Pirates of the Caribbean changes, agree or disagree?

This is probably been posted before, but I was curious. What do you guys think about the new additions to POTC? DO you like them? Do you hate them? Post your opinions on the new changes.

I for one like the new changes except for the sad attempt barbossa animatronic. I love the Davy Jones effect

Yes! It would be cool to have the same characters, but better tech!

Possibly, although it might ruin the originality of the ride itself.

No way! It would totally ruin the originality of it all and degrade it!

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean changes, agree or disagree?

I've not posted on any of the new POTC threads because I just recently got to ride it for the first time.

I didn't mind most of the changes, but one change struck me very strongly, and I was surprised by how I felt about it.

    The music.

I HATED it. I tried to like it. For some reason, it ruined the ambience of the ride for me.

I've been riding POTC for over 30 years, mind you, so I guess I'm pretty set in my ways. I loved the waterfall effect so much, and the animatronics were neat to find. I thought despite looking "too good", they fit in just fine.

    But that music...

I was almost in tears by the end of the ride. It was that different to me.

Did anyone else have a similar reaction???

You mean the music during the cages or the fight between the ship and the wall? If you mean in the cave, I actually loved the new music. Although I DO miss the old music, i like the new music as well. It's more, i dunno, piraty? It just sounded really cool to me. BUT i do miss the end of the ride with the two pirates fighting over the treasure...I can't believe they totally took that away.

For me, the new score additions along with all of the new lighting are the reasons why I liked the "new" Pirates so much.

Yes, I had read so many great things here about the new music and the new sound system, and how much everyone liked those changes.

That's why I was surprised that I didn't like the music.

It was louder, and it somehow distracted me, and somehow changed the ride for me.

Could be I'm just an old fogey and it'll take a few more rides for me to get over it already :-) Could also be my boat was soaking wet when I got in it and had to walk around in wet pants all day!

For the most part they are good. The only problem I have is after the second water fall and you go into the cavern they are not sing the pirates song. It seems kind of boring now in that section.

I haven't been on the updated POTC yet (was last there in April), but it strikes me as odd that they would nail Jack Sparrow so accurately with the animatronic, but that the Barbossa AA would be so comparatively wrong-looking. What's up with that, I wonder?

That is the reason why I liked the change. I always wondered who was singing at that point because there is no one there. I do like the new music very much. They did a great job of tying in new and old.

i think it has something to do with needeing to make the AA able to move its jaw while "speaking"

the 3rd Jack Sparrow AA pales in comparison to the first two which dont' have to "speak"

I also think its because we are very close to it. With the first two, we are actually farely far away but with the last it's closer.

i liked the new music in the caves until i got stuck down there for 45 minutes listening to it! perhaps when i go back during the summer i'll like it again...

otherwise, i actually liked all of the changes. it was kinda nice to have the sound be so clear and loud. the jack sparrow animatronics were good, although i really didn't like the barbossa AA either. it looked nothing like him!

The Barbossa animatronic looked like a really tall lawn gnome. I'd really like to know why it doesn't look like Geoffrey Rush AT ALL. Maybe it's a likeness issue? I'm not sure how that aspect of making someone into a ride character works. Johnny Depp posed with his so we know he approved it. But nothing from Geoffrey Rush's camp.

I don't like Barbossa either. Pretty much the only change I don't like.

Considering barbossa's beard is white on the ride...And blackish brown in the movies (right?) I couldn't believe it. The only reason i could tell who it was was from the soundtrack of him on the ride...I thought they should have had an animatronic of two crewmen from the movie instead of the old ones...Seems kinda silly to have a new barbossa next to the old crew.

I'm kinda glad they didn't. I'm all for adding more animatronics..not taking them out.

They're already adding Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann next year.

Though I actually wouldn't mind if they added Pintel and Ragetti (the two bumbling pirates) somewhere... even if they didn't talk. But next thing you know, someone will be asking for Norrington and Mr Gibbs too!

And then Chow Yun Fat! It'll never end...

I miss the part in the caves where they said" no fear of evil curses says you, properly warned ye be says I". Other than that I think the things they added are great! The fighting ship effect is better with the splashes and the lighting improvement and the new AA's are great!!!

I agree with not liking the music, it makes the whole ride feel off. And here's a weird thing that bugged me: the lighting, the change was so subtle but enough for someone like me who's been going on the ride for years and years to notice. But that's just a sad Disney-geek thing to notice.

I did like the Davey Jones waterfall effect, but to me it was in completely the wrong place destroying a classic part of the ride. They should have put it right before the second drop, think about that. Oh look a fake waterfall, oh Davey Jones, I'mma gonna stare at it, lalalalala, omigosh a drop!-weee...

As for the animatronics, while neat and everything, I keep noticing myself just staring at them enthralled in their realism and sexy Johnny Depp-ness, it's distracting, and after staring so long I miss everything else.

Overall, I personally give the whole thing a big 'meh.' But it's not going to stop me from riding it.

While we liked the new Jack AA's, they really make the old ones look antiquated and crude.

We kind of felt that the the attraction has become "The Adventures of Capt. Jack Sparrow"
