  • A trip in January?

I am in the process of planning a trip to the parks in January for my friend's 20th birthday and I have a question.

Is the middle of January still peak season? We will be going January 15th-19th. Will it still be as crazy as it will be in December?

I went for my birthday last year (Jan. 31). It was a Tuesday, and both parks were deserted. If I'd brought roller skates, I could have roller skated, if I roller skated. I think I managed to hit 32 attractions (with some duplication) in something like 7 hours. I can imagine it will be like that this January as well.

I always refer to the annual pass blackout calendars. If the deluxe pass (that's the 2nd-best pass, right?) is blacked out, the park is going to be crowded. If passholders can go, it shouldn't be bad.

January is wide open for them, so you should be fine.

(Disclaimer: My theory is completely untested, but it makes sense to me!)

I got quite a lot in January - once the New Years rush is over (like the 3 or 4th) it tends to be fairly quiet from then till Spring Break hits! Have fun. Though, keep in mind, emptier park also means shorter park hours and less shows and parades. But really, it is quite nice.

We went about that time last year, and it was OK, pretty good lines. One thing to remember, is that Martin Luther King Jr. weekend? If so, it's a holiday for school kids, so it might be busier than other January weekends.

My only complaint is that I believe Haunted Mansion will be down in January... I need to check the official dates to verify.

                Your theory makes perfect sense.
Except that MLK Day weekend (the Saturday and Sunday more so than the Monday) will be more crowded.

Forgot about that (we working stiffs don't get that day off). It would be blacked out for passholders, so my theory still stands. Yea!

Were both in luck. Haunted Mansions will be up and running on the 19th. Small World may be an issue. My one year old loves it too.

There is no off season anymore.

Well, maybe they (whoever sets blocked out dates) haven't gotten around to that one yet.
It would require adding another blocked out day to Deluxe. Guess who would notice something like that? A lot of Ap'ers that's who!
Do note that the whole weekend is blocked out for SoCal AP.

                              There's a less-on season. But nothing near "off-season" circa 1994.
