New Tomorrowland: 2007

Well, with all the rumors going around about Tomorrowland, it seems like there may be a whole new Tomorrowland in 2007. The new monorails are already confirmed for this year. The twentieth anniversary of Star Tours is this year and it has been said that there will be a new version. The Submarine Voyage/Finding Nemo is set to open in 2007. There has been many rumors about Astro Orbiter being relocated to its rightful location on the PM platform, an updated PeopleMover and a replacement for Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, this may all go down this year as well if everything is greenlighted. Tomorrowland opend in 1955, twelve years later, a new tomorrowland was born. Thirty-one years later, a new tomorrowland was born once again, but it quickly died soon thereafter. Could it be that only nine years later, they will have a new one yet again? What does everyone else think about a possibe new Tomorrowland 2007 rennovation?

I think it is freaking amazing if it all happens. I know that Tomorrowland has the potencial to be the best land in the park. Face it who doesnt dream of the future?

It does! Tomorrowland doesn't have to be all rides either, you get a good replacement for honey I shrunk the kids, and you've got something! Maybe even make some of the
effects in the new show random, so most the time it's a bit different!

I think that a new Tomorrowland would be great. I don't think that it needs to be deemed a "New Tomorrowland"- I think just a gradual upgrading, repainting, and plussing will suffice. By creating all of the huge "New TL '98" hoopla, I feel that the expectations were set way too high. Just improve TL, and add new rides, but there's no need for it to be rechristened. I mean, was there a "New Adventureland '95" celebration for Indy? Or was it just celebrated as the opening of a great new ride, even though it had a large affect of Adventureland as a whole?

I think that would be pretty great if they did do a new Tomorrowland but I really hope they do it in a different style than Tomorrowland 98 ... that just seemed to be such a let down and instead of thinking of the Bright Big Beautiful Tomorrow ... I thought of Poo! It would be awesome if the things you say come back but I honestly hope Peoplemover doesn't unless it is radically different because it is not futuristic in any way IMO.

I don't care about another "grand" unveiling of Tomorrowland. What I would love to see is the lively, active nightspot that I remember from the late 80's/early 90's. When I was a teenager, Tomorrowland was THE place to hang at night. Like a nightclub with training wheels.

Yeah, I don't think it has to be one of those big all-consuming makeovers. Consider it a rolling refurb for the land.

I would, however, think it'd be cool if they do recycle the MBC/Autopia area to rechristen that area. Handled properly, you really could make a fantasy city of tomorrow like Progress City, so that rides like Autopia and MBC aren't so much minimally-themed boat/car driving rides, but themed "outdoor dark rides."

Same thing if they redid, say, Innoventions and Pizza Port at the same time, or the whole Rocket Tower complex... Not a whole new Tomorrowland, not even a brand new E ticket, but a layered, two- or three-part set of C and D attractions rolled out at once.

I dont think TL should have "stages" of new-ness, but constantly being updated to reflect what should be tomorrow, and never let it be today. Constantly evolving, never stopping and getting old. This is one place in the park where nostalgia should get a back seat too invention!

Just so long as the inventions are 1) better than what already occupies the space, and 2) fully-funded.

If you look at the other side of the park, you have a very interesting mix of attractions. You have Splash, Indy, and BTMRR for thrills. You have two cinematic darkrides (and that Pooh). Then you have Jungle Cruise, and the various elements of the RoA, which rely largely on themed envitons-as-attractions. Not a lot of shows.

Luckily, Tomorrowland is moving away from being so show-intensive. I'd say a key component to making a revised Tomorrowland stick is to find some way, ANY way, to upgrade Star Tours, or move it to HPB using an even further developed "hot set" idea than the one at DMGM. Over the years, it's just lost the thrill and become more show than ride. And of course, if nothing else, HISTA and/or at least one floor of Innoventions needs to go. I'm still partial to the "Preview Center 2155" concept, where you see models and sketches for Disneyland's newest ride (in 2155), and then a 3-D mockumentary on the design and creation of the attraction, complete with simulated ride-through. Or do Flying Saucers, Alien Encounter, New ATIS... anything, so long as it's more engaging than what's in those two spaces now.

Until those get taken care of, I think we'll all be watching the new stuff roll out and saying "Okay, you're getting closer, but what else have you got up your sleeve?"

You know, TDA could really use this as the opportunity to keep the public eye fixed on Disneyland. Once the 50th celebration is over, wouldn't it be nice to come back with a celebration of Tomorrowland? Slowly but surely they could improve, add and tweak the most neglected land of them all until it's really a Tomorrowland again - then a ribbon cutting ceremony later we have another reason to celebrate! I think it would be better to do that than have several over-the-top ride openings going on.

Actually that was 8 years ago in 1997, 2007 will mark the 30th anniversary of the orginal Star Wars.

I think that Star Wars has reached the end of its lifespan. It is like the hoola Hoop and Rubic's cube. It was popular in its day, but interest is dying. It is thirty years since Star Wars opened in 1977. Now, I have to confess, I was a big fan and still love Star Tours. But they should have updated Star Tours a decade ago. Now it is throwing good money after bad.

I would like to see more AA's in a new tomorrowland. Something that showcases Robots in homes of the future. I think a new space simulator needs to be in TL too, but it either needs to be more like Mission: Space which is over the top in thrills or user-controled like Buzz has to some degree. I want to fly a space ship, but I want to be in the pilot seat, not an AA!
