    Vault Disney - Disneyland episodes ... which ones are available on DVD?

    Hi all,

    One of the really nice things about the "Vault Disney" program that they used to run is the looks at Disneyland years ago ... selected episodes of "Disneyland", "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" and the like.

    Unfortunately I deleted the shows from my TiVo after watching them because I figured they would always be back on within a month or five. Then the program stopped running. I got sad.

    Once the "Walt Disney Treasures: Disneyland USA" DVD came out I got it immediately. On the other hand, it is not a complete collection of park looks. Some have started appearing on other DVDs as "special features" like the episode that discusses Pirates of the Caribbean is oddly enuf on the Pirates of the Caribbean DVD. Also, the DVD for Swiss Family Robinson has some footage of Haley and John Mills attending the opening of the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse with Walt.

    This got me thinking ... what other DVDs would I need to rent to see some of those old clips of the park?

    Of particular interest is the arial time-lapse photography of the grading work (and other stuff) while the park was being built.

    Note: I was thinking this could also go under the "Entertainment" category so mods should please feel free to move it there...

    Look at the great business the Disneyland CD's are generating... I think they would do equally well with limited edition DVDs of all the Disneyland-related TV hours - - not necessisarily in a big box set either. Why not give Disney Home Video a call and set up a deal, Disneyland? You could turn these around quickly - - I'd buy them all.

      Perhaps I don't have as much cash as you do ... to buy the whole set (wow!) I would definitely buy several of them. Why did they cancel Vault Disney and the re-runs of this great show (Wonderful World of Disney)? I want to be able to show my kids many of the shows that are classics but really can't now.

      Sad.

        Merlin listed just about every episode I'd like too see on DVD. I'd buy them all. Come on, Disney, make yourself some money.

              Man... I used to watch these as a kid! They would put them on the Disney Channel at night, or in between cartoons.
              Well, light travels from the sun. Then, bounces off of our planet, and back into our eyes so we can perceive color. My body can intercept that light and dance around on it!

                Because they're quite obviously STUPID.

                  The one with the Haunted Mansion is called "Disneyland Showtime". You have to watch the Osmonds run around the park looking for Donny for the first fifty minutes of the show, though (okay... I admit, I like it. They filmed it a few weeks after I visited for the first time).

                  I would DEFINITELY buy all of that on DVD. I have a number of shows I taped off of Vault Disney when it was running, and I too got very sad to find out they quit airing them (because we all want to see re-runs of That's So Raven and Lizzy McGuire way more than anything else, right? Disney TV seems to think so...)

                  Luckily I'd saved the ones I taped, though according to the list above, I'm still short a few.

                    On a related topic, how about a list of old Disney TV shows, including more episodes of the original MMC, Zoro, Spin and Marty, etc...? My kids have only heard me talk about it, but it would be great to see those again, wouldn't it?

                      Oh and how about the Mickey Mouse Club reunion. That was really cool, And it was in color too. I haven't seen that since I was ten.

                      Holiday Time At Disneyland - Wow. I loved seeing that segment. Was really cool to see what they did around the Holidays at Disneyland during Walt's era.

                      I recall that The Disney Channel used to run a big marathon of thse kind of shows on July 17th every year. But that ended a long time ago.

                        I'd also like to add the Splash Moutain Opening show with Ernest, and the 35th Anniversary show with Tony Danza...I remember those being on when the "old" Disney Channel Disneyland show Marathons. I had one of those days on VHS once, I think the tape is actually completely unviewable now, never should have recorded on SLP.

                          I remember that special. Wasn't there also a segment with Fred Savage (or some boy actor) who saw a girl ghost on the Haunted Mansion? I definently remember Ernest on Slash I think my dad did the same thing (recorded the show off Disney Channel). Who knows were that video is now.

                          I also remember a Backstage Disney special on MSEP. One part I remember specifically was with a guy who showed how to play and record the music for the Peter Pan float.

                              I would think that an argument could be made that running these older Disney shows on Vault Disney (or whatever one would want to call it) between 2 and 4am would attract a larger audience than the current schedule (four episodes of Even Stevens). Especially if one considers the idea of viewers recording shows to timeshift ... there is a compelling argument that one should offer a far wider variety of programming options.

                              I was all prepared to make a defense for this decision (higher ratings, more money, etc.) but then started thinking about it ... 2 to 4am, for God's sake ... what 10 year old kids are watching Even Stevens then? Even if someone used a DVR to timeshift, they should be happy with the other 5 episodes per day.

                              Ugh!

                                I'd prefer a seperate Vault Disney channel with all our beloved classic stuff, and a regular boring new stuff Disney Channel for those who enjoy 9 hours of Even Stevens followed by reruns of Mr. Belvedere and other pap.

                                  I agree since theres already toon disney and disney and one more disney channel.. Why not a vault disney.. I loved watching vault disneywhen i couldcatch it.. I was really disappointed when they were stopping it. I guess it was appealing for small children. whatever.. Whos in charge what happens on the Disney channels? We should write some letters. Any info?

                                    Even when Vault Disney was running during late nights I had to get up at 5 AM for school. So I would eat breakfast watching the Disney shorts they showed at that time. Unfortunately before they cut the block altogether they put many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh on at 5 AM (not that Winnie the Pooh isn't a good show). Fortunately Cartoon Network was running Top Cat at the same time.

                                        I think the whole family should have a chance to enjoy the classic shows together - so the late night thing just doesn't play - - why not just devote Sundays - just one day a week - all day/night - to classic Walt Disney programs, movies, cartoons - - in homage to the Wonderful World of Color/Disney?

                                        One day a week to continue the franchises...!

                                        If not on Disney or ABCFamily - - lease it all to TV Land and let them be smarter!
