• Tinkermonkey goes to Disneyland 10/8-10/15

Ok, um, yeah. FINALLY? I had grand plans of doing updated trip reports every night while in DL, and then realized two things - I was exhausted daily and our condo only had internet (even wireless) in the lounge areas. So, I waited to write it. Then I waited to upload the pictures. But - finally - I did it. I really was trying to get it under the wire of still being October, but I had to go trick-or-treating!! So, happy reading!! And, honest – this is the short version!! But we were there for 9 days, so there’s lots to tell!! I did skip most of the obligatory pictures that are specific to Halloween Time (although I can say it was really well done and very pretty all over Main Street!) and focused on some of my favorite pictures and nice little stories to share...

So, now that you have your kids stash of Halloween candy to give you the sugar rush you need, lets go Back to Disneyland!!

DAY ONE – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7TH
So we took a freakishy early flight out of Seattle (6AM!) but still managed to dig deep and find the energy to go to DCA for the afternoon! The Grandparents were flying in later in the day and were taking the kids for the evening (yippee – date night!), so we wanted to try to wear them out a bit! First stop – Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. I think we could have stayed here all day! Sawyer found his favorite attraction over next to the Brother Bear cave – the tiny river! What fun to get his feet wet!

Caitlyn enjoyed herself here too, even though she couldn’t do the climbing wall with sandals on (her current extra curricular activity is "Little Rockers" at a local climbing gym) the zip line had a short line so she just kept circling through.

In fact, she didn’t want to stop to go watch the Brother Bear show…

Doesn’t she look like she is having a horrible time?!

Then it was off to Grizzly River –where of course she and Daddy got the first ride. One of these trips I will figure out that if she is going to get wet, she might not want to do it a second time and then I’m stuck riding alone or skipping the ride all together!

After that, we rode Monsters for the first time – YIPPEE – and really liked it!! Then it was off to the hotel to meet up with the Grandparents. We stayed the first 2 nights of our trip at the Anaheim Plaza Inn. I had read mixed reviews so I was a bit worried, but found it to be nice enough. The worst thing was they were hosting both a wedding reception and another party the first night there so things were VERY loud! The walk to and from the Park was not bad at all so I’d stay there again if I needed to. Jeff and I left the kids with the grandparents and went back to DL for some grown up time!!

DAY TWO – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8TH
Sunday started out great – we went to Adventureland right away and started with Jungle Cruise. Sawyer found another favorite place – the Treehouse

Oh gosh, then it was so close to noon, it was time to go to "church" -- my first COW meet!! I admit I was feeling starstruck for the longest time, but eventually started talking to some great people!! I’d start listing all the great people I met, but then I’d feel bad that I forgot someone!! Simply Mad’s hubby took a picture of us together at the meet (jacked nicely from her trip report!)

While I was enjoying my time at the meet, Caitlyn found out that the Jedi Training Academy in fact did exist (some of you may recall my hopes that we could get through the trip without her knowing, or at least preventing it for quite some time…) and I can truly say after hearing about others reports of NOT getting picked, we were lucky! She watched the noon training and was picked for the 1:00 group!

I was very proud of how brave she was, because frankly, Darth Maul is a scary looking dude!!

Our next stop, chronicled nicely by Simply Mad in her trip report, was for SM’s son Gavin’s birthday party at the Plaza Inn. It’s fun and cute and all that, but please REFILL THE DRINKS!! Oh, and I still wish they would make it an option for parents to just come and watch without having to do the whole cake thing.

The cute thing about this picture is I have almost the same shot of the two of them 4 years ago at Pat E Cakes for Harrision's 5th birthday! They've grown up so much!! (which is hard to believe when you see Cait's mouth stained from the frosting!!)

Ok, this is just a random one because I really like Caitlyn’s face in it and she is sitting next to her favorite character…

Later that night, my gang was crazy enough to ride the Astro Orbiter – I say this because Jeff’s legs are so long that I was surprised he was ok with it!!

Then I did my craziest thing of the trip – with nothing but the kids and a stroller, I managed to save space for 15 people to watch the fireworks from my favorite spot – just to the right at the front of the hub!! Everyone loved the show and thanked me tons for saving them such great seats – I have to thank the kind strangers who helped me save the seats by alerting me when I wasn’t paying attention to squatters!! After that, we did the same thing for Fantasmic!

It should come as little surprise that I had some very tired kids after keeping them out that late!

Yes, he fell asleep while climbing into bed!!

DAY 3 – MONDAY, OCTOBER 9TH
Monday dawned EARLY with 8:40AM reservations at Goofy’s Kitchen for more birthday festivities for Gavin.

Sawyer wasn’t quite sure what to make of Baloo – I only wish I had caught the look on his face when he first turned and saw him sitting where Simply Mad had been sitting moments earlier!

After checking out of the hotel, we went to DCA for the afternoon. Cait happily found her way to the High School Musical pep rally and got out and enjoyed dancing!

We meandered over to the Backlot to let the grandparents ride Monsters. Grandpa was a bit frustrated because he didn’t think to wear sandals and his shoes and socks were soaked from a great ride on Grizzly. So, while we went into the Animation building, he sat out in the sun to dry off. Not long after we got inside, grandma said she had seen Peter Pan and he waved at her! I realized that he must be in the Drawn To Animation show so we ran outside – only to see him going back INSIDE! We zipped back in but couldn’t find him. Cinderella kindly whispered loudly to us that she thought she saw him head toward the Sorcerer’s Workshop. Off we went…and we saw Mickey dressed as a sorcerer (cool!) but kept going. Nope – didn’t find him. So we looped back through again. Yeah, we found him – he was playing with the voices while he stood next to Mickey! Cait was delighted and waited and took pictures with him (and Mickey) and then Peter took Cait’s hand and started walking with her.

Now, I have to interject what I think is the coolest part of this story… last year when we were at DL, Cait saw Peter Pan 3 different times. And it was the "same" Peter each time. We have his picture on a shelf in her room. How shocked was I when I realized it was yet again the SAME Peter!?! Ok, back to the report…

After Monsters, we went to DL for a while and realized we still had to drive to Oceanside, so we left. Our condo in Oceanside was nice, but WOW that is a long drive!!

The next two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, had us in San Diego at Sea World and the Zoo. Sea World was a blast and we ended up letting Caitlyn do the Dolphin Interaction Program where they get in the water with the trainers and the dolphins. It was a blast for her and for us to watch!

Back to DL on DAY 6, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12th
Today was somewhat sad because it was Simply Mad’s last day and it always feels like we never get any real time together! But we got to enjoy a great lunch at Café Orleans out on the patio so that was a nice treat! We spent some quality time riding Big Thunder that day!

We took a few minutes to try and get some good group pictures in front of Walt (as opposed to the "backside of Walter" as Y-KIKI likes to call the castle side) and Mickey. In honor of Mice Chat, we tried to make our kids happily spell out a certain abbreviation – it didn’t go so well… please note the enthusiastic faces of the children...

That night was the meet up at the Hearthstone with the Aussie’s! Tassie and her family are just a ball of fun and Caitlyn and Jr. Tassie had a great time whenever they were together for the rest of the week – along with the Wolfette, they were a silly crew!! Thanks to Frogberto always mentioning martinis, I had my first one – of course, it was called CHOCOLATE CAKE – so how could I resist! I had a great time with everyone that night and wish I could have visited more!

DAY 7, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13th
We got a late start out of Oceanside and made it to the resort just in time for hubby to drop Caitlyn and I off at the Harbor entrance so we could make it to the hub at noon to meet Wolfy, Wolfette, and the Tassie family. The kids did the Jr. Bakers at the Plaza and had a great time!

Tassie took a photo like this so I had to copy her - it turned out really neat! The star is the hole in the top of the chef hats!

The shaky – shaky dance was my favorite part!

For some reason, this flower looked like Donald to me…

Then it was off to get some lunch. We split up and some got Bengal BBQ while others got River Belle. We sat outside at River Belle Terrace and it started to RAIN! After lunch, Wolfy wanted to do some shopping so they were off while Jeff took the Tassie family onto the Mark Twain. This is where it was fun for us to do something cool for someone else – I stayed off the boat to help with numbers and Jeff got both groups (he, Cait and Sawyer along with the Tassie 4) into the Wheel House – so the kids all got to take turns piloting the Mark Twain! No pictures here because Jeff was holding Sawyer and didn’t take any! But I know when Tassie gets a moment to do her report, she took pictures! (I hope she did anyway!)

After that Tassie and the girls went on Big Thunder and then I went to get fast passes for Buzz. I ran into the Wolfy pair and we tracked down everyone to the side of the Castle looking at the swans.

Look mommy - swans!! Let's go!

Then everyone else had to head out to go get ready for their dinner at Goofy’s kitchen. We meandered around and ended up in Toon Town for some fun.

I had never ridden Gadget’s Go Coaster, so that was an adventure!

I was certain that Sawyer was going to fall out so I was holding him so tight!

Then the kids went to play at the new Goofy’s playground area. It’s cute, but I was shocked to see what bad condition the decorations were already in. And they may have been recent problems as the petals from the flowers were on the ground. (OR, maybe it was actually imagineering – the petals were falling off because it was that time of the year?)

DAY 8 SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14th
We started our day using our 2nd day of our 2-day tickets at Sea World. We rode Atlantis – what a fun ride! And it looks so much scarier than it really is! Then we went to their Wild Arctic area.

If you have never checked out that area at Sea World, I fully recommend it. It is VERY well themed! We followed that up with a few rides on Sea Worlds version of Grizzly River and wow, they know how to make it wetter there! I was completely soaked after my first run on the ride, not helped by the fact that for a mere quarter, you can use water cannons on people as you watch from the side. We stopped at the condo on the way north and got dry clothes on and it was off to our final night at Disneyland!!
Daddy and the kids were VERY happy to be going back to Disneyland.

Sawyer was pretty much a one trick pony at this point- he was all about 3 things – Pirates, Jungle Cruise and the Treehouse – so that is what he and Jeff did for a while. Cait and I rode Big Thunder, which was quickly becoming her favorite nighttime activity at Disneyland. The crazy part? We got evac’d! My first time! Yeah, whoopie – our car was the final car of the train and every person ahead of us was able to just get off the train but when the stop happened, we were just before the loading area, so we got to wait 15 minutes to get escorted out of our car. We thought it was funny! Then we were off to our spot for one more Fantasmic. (Fireworks were a no go) Not too much later, we found ourselves heading back to the Timon lot and one more drive south.

DAY 9, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15th
After packing up the van and checking out of our condo in Oceanside, we were on our way for one last day at DL. After a slow start with parking and tram waiting, we were in the park by about 10:30 and needed to leave by 5:30. The last day always is a blur to me but usually is very photo-ful. Not so much this time. Today was spent shopping and hunting for the ONE PIN that Caitlyn wanted to get for her daddy. (New rule – see a pin, buy a pin!) Before the pin hunt and the shopping, I grabbed everyone’s tickets and got two fastpasses for HMH and 3 for Indy. My dad and Step-Mom hadn’t been on either ride yet so we wanted to make sure they got those off their lists! Much to my delight, the return times were within 10 minutes of each other. So while they rode HMH, we wandered through Adventureland and Sawyer did the Treehouse one last time. When they met us at Indy, we did the child swap and Jeff, Cait and I rode while the Grandparents waited with Sawyer. Then we got off and they used the kid swap to get their ride done quickly too! Off to Buzz for fastpasses and that’s when I got to go on the pin hunt that took me all over DL and even over to DCA! (Still didn’t find the silly Jedi Mickey pin!) While I did this, Jeff took Cait and a sleeping Sawyer to Innoventions. He really likes that place. I haven’t been in there, so, well, OK. Somewhere during all of this, I did make it to a sparsely attended meet (most of the "regular crew" were in LA for the Aids Walk) and got to meet Akfandisney and Judimouse and others too as well as got to spend a little more time with the Tassie family. Alan kindly put together a trip report for that.
While I shopped, Jeff took the kids for a trip over to TSI where they had a blast.

So much fun that Cait left her jacket over there. CHAOS ensued about an hour later when after we rode our final ride and upon exiting she realized her coat was at TSI. Yep – it was now just about 5:30 – time to LEAVE FOR THE AIRPORT! Off they raced to the TSI dock only to find the last raft had already left. To make a long story short – (HA!) no jacket was found in the bathroom on TSI. The security person gave Jeff a slip of paper and told him to go to the Emporium and get her a new jacket. Wow. And while I was on the phone honestly telling Jeff to just pick the really nice Tink hooded coat, Cait said she didn’t lose a coat, she lost a sweatshirt jacket. So, that was what she picked out to replace it with. So, all in all, there was a happy ending to our trip!

It’s been a few weeks and we are already trying to figure out how and when to get back there!
Thanks for reading!!
I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

Great report and it was a blast to meet you and the whole family!

I wish I was better at taking pictures of people at these meets, but I did find one of you...

Well, the back your head... :shy:

This is an extra-exciting version "Name the MiceChatter"!
Since no one has their face in full view, try to name as many people in this picture as you can (without referring to your Field Guide to MiceChat Watching handbook).

Once again, great pix and story!

The 11th was Wednesday, right? We were in San Diego for Tuesday/Wednesday doing the Zoo and Sea World. Sorry to have missed you!

Just reading about your driving back and forth amazed me! Anaheim to Oceanside (after a day at DL is a feat). I live in L.A and dread the drive back home from Anaheim ... and running around with two active kids doesn't make things any easier.

I'm glad that things went well and that all of you had fun though!
