  • Question about Disneyland's Haunted Mansion soundtrack...still Paul Frees?

I just downloaded the entire ride soundtrack of DL's HM from foyer to finsih from 1313SouthHarborBlvd.com, and it doesn't sound like Paul Frees. I have another recording of the soundtrack from the foyer to the ballroom, and that one sounds like Paul Frees. The one on 1313 has the new attic with the wedding march music. When they made those changes to the attic, did they also re-record the entire soundtrack with a Paul Frees "sound alike"?

Aha, so I wasn't the only one.

I went in April when the updates had been added, and the voice did sound different. I am guessing they re-recorded, but I'm not sure.

I think they did re-record. It just doesn't sound right.

Well, you should try listening to the *other* earlier recording that I have...

you have to compare the two.

I'll email it to anyone who want's to compare. Even background sound is different. This one starts with the bells, the 1313 version starts with organ music, you'll hear the differences.

I think the HM soundtrack from 1313Southhardborblvd is from the WDW version. Because our HM doesn't have a lot of the stuff that's in that narration. Like the library.

EEK! You're right. I never played the whole thing through, I just scanned and skipped through it, and missed the library scene, which, had I heard, would have been a "dead" giveaway. IT IS the WDW version!!!!!! That explains it. And so then it is Paul Frees, but the fact that it is the WDW version explains why it sounded off to me because I was thinking it was the DL version. Paul Frees did both, but they were seperate recordings, with different scripts.

Also, it's entirely possible that they remastered the audio, which could explains ome differences in what you've heard on the attraction itself lately.

No, actually WDW and DL are exactly the same recordings, the library is the only difference.

I think it sounds like Frees. No question.

They're both great! I have a recording of Paul Frees doing the voices. I'd attach it here if I knew how.

I think there are other differences besides the Library scene.

EDIT: Yeah, some of Leota's incantations are in a different order, plus there is that line about the ghost at your side pushing you back in your carriage, urging you to stay.

The 1313 version contains alternate takes not used in either version of the ride. It is indeed Paul Frees.

Mike and Karen ran toward the old house, through the old iron gate, and onto the porch for protection. Protection...? If only they had known...
