  • Lincoln is coming back!

When I was reading the news today in MiceChat I came across this article, Disneymaniacs make a faithful following that dramaqueen posted. In it Marty Sklar talked about Disneymaniacs which pretty much means all of us on these message boards.
Sklar said that although Disneyland is a national treasure, Walt Disney never envisioned it as a museum where things would never change.
Sklar wants to assure Disneymaniacs that the animatronic version of Abraham Lincoln that has been temporarily retired to make room for the new "Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years" presentation, will return following the 18-month celebration.

The fact that a Disneyland legend such as Sklar even knew that Disneymaniacs were worried about Mr. Lincoln's eviction is a testament to the growing influence they have on Disneyland policy -- something that only became possible with the emergence of the Internet.

Now tens of thousands of Disneymaniacs communicate regularly in Web forums about topics such as their annoyance over a burned out light bulb on Main Street to alleged attempts by Disneyland to retire old Abe.
So this would mean that Mr. Lincoln is still coming back, no? What do you think? What show will it be? Will it be a new one?

The original article can be found here .

Yes, but Marty also said that Walt's office would be returned to Disneyland after Disney World stole it for Walt's 100th anniversary celebration. It wasn't. When the time comes to bring Lincoln back to life, it will all come down to money. Does he bring in more money than he costs. While it is possible, I doubt that there is enough momentum behind old Abe to save him this time.

Walt Disney's office isn't at DL anymore? When did this happen? Geeze, you turn you back for a few years.....
As nice as the other parks are, we must always remember that it all began at Disneyland. Disneyland should be the crown jewel in the Disney crown.

I dont get it. If they dont want it a museum, why bring Lincoln back? Im not saying to keep the 50th display, but lets move on. Yes a few hard coar fans like the AA, but how many people see the show? I have been going too Disneyland all my life and for 28 years I never new it existed till they replaced it with the 50th display.

Ok, but I sware, when I was in Disneyland last fall, they had Walt's Office. Was that a fake remake?

Edit: Fake Remake? I really have no idea what I'm talking about. :monkey:

There were two displays, one was Walt's office and there was another window on the right of that one which I cant remember what was in it. I heard it went to WDW.

That's really sad, and you call yourself a Disney theme park fan?

I make a prediction that Lincoln's return will be delayed due to 'the popularity of the Steve Martin/ Donald film' and then they'll say 'due to the popularity of the Donald film, we will be installing 'Philharmagic' for a trial basis and then eventually Lincoln will glow away together...

What does money have to do with Lincoln returning? If we pay admission to the park, how do they figure the return of the attraction? Just curious.

Just bring back Walt's original show (not seen here since the early 80's) when you do, okay?

I'd also like to point out that Marty Sklar said he'd lay down in traffic on Harbor Blvd. before he let them close the Subs. Matry is a little dramatic and does not always follow through on promises.

By the way, this comments is very revealing. WDI thinks disneymaniancs want everything not to change and stay just as it is. They do not understand that most fans don't want that. They do not understand that most fans was things to continue to grow and improve but maintain the same spirit that Disneyland has always had. Disney fans are not well thought of in the halls of WDI. We are all freaks and wierdos who don't want the parks to change. Marty and his buddy Tom lets-put-a-bunch-of-movies-in-the-park-insted-of-Audio-Animatronics Fitzgerald thinks we, the fans, want it to be a museum. This was not a kind hearted comment from Uncle Marty. It was an insult.

Exactly! Keep the "flavor" of the park the same, just add some "spices" once in a while.

I wonder if they could use both shows together? I like the new show, and would rather combine them into one fantastic attraction.

Unfortunately, the Opera House is one of those locations that will never pull in big numbers - so whether Lincoln or 50 Magical Years stay, the majority of guests wouldn't notice or care.

My vote would be to keep 50 Magical Years, or something similar to the concept after the 18 month celebration. I have honestly dragged every friend and family member over and over again to see this attraction and they have all enjoyed the pre-show art and the film. I barely could get anybody to see the Journey To Gettsyberg show with me.

LOL I like how someone mentioned putting Philarmagic in the Opera House - why not?

How big is the opera house? Would it be able to fit philarmagic? And wouldn't that ruin the theme a bit
