  • Candlelight Processional 2006 (Warning, photo heavy)

I'll let these pictures speak for themselves, but I have a few comments about the Candlelight Processional. First, thanks to MiceChat, I heard about this in the first place - I thought I knew Disneyland pretty well, growing up in Orange County, but apparently this is a closely guarded secret that took 38 of my years to learn. Circarama, his wife, Tigerlily, and me and my family had made arrangements to meet up for the Napa Rose dinner beforehand, and because the baby refused to "Take a Napa" before our dinner, we spent a lot of time strolling around DCA until our meal time waiting for him to fall asleep. As we exited the park, we were warned to get our hand stamped, since Disneyland was expected to be crowded. We were seated on the opposite side of the room from Circarama. He came over and presented us with a beautiful bottle of Syrah wine as a thank you for extending the invite to have him join us at Club 33.

The meal at Napa Rose was exquisite. I didn't have a camera with me (it was in my car), so I didn't get a menu photo or shots of the beautifully presented food, but from memory, the menu was as follows:

    First Course:
Roasted Pheasant and Mushrooms in a copper pot, or Lobster/King Crab, and Avocado Martini

    Second Course:
Endive Salad with Roasted Candied Pecans and Pear/Blue Cheese dressing or Mushroom Cappucino

    Third Course:
Tender Bone-In Angus Rib on Zinfandel Jus or Grilled Salmon on Christmas Bean puree

    Dessert Course:
Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee or Bouche de Noel

Everything was delicious and attractively presented. Even the baby had a great pasta alfredo that he loved. With a half an hour left to show time, the waiter gave us our tickets and our gifts - three of the very attractive premium wine glasses etched with the Candlelight Logo that Circarama showed off in his thread.

That was part of the problem. Intending to put both the glasses and the bottle of wine in a locker while I watched the processional, I was denied entry into DCA (because I couldn't present a Grand Californian Room Key), and then denied entry into the Esplanade because of the no alcohol and no glass rule(s). When I explained that I just wanted to get to the lockers, they advised me that all the lockers were full.

From there, with minutes to go until show time, they advised me that security would escort me to my car. All the way there, the nice security official that escorted me griped about the company, about how the fact that they gave glass to me when I can't take glass into candlelight shows how corporate doesn't know what they're doing, and she also gave the example of how when the 50th anniversary began, they went from easy to check clear shopping bags to hard to see through dark blue bags, with a big "50" logo, that made the lines twice as long, since they had to open each bag. Finally I found my family near the front row and enjoyed the program.

The program itself was just beautiful. Great scriptural reading by Hector Elizondo, and wonderful soloists, a beautiful visual presentation, and the voices of many school and church choir members. A special night for all, as you can see by the pictures below (and note that with the low lighting, pictures were especially challenging to get):

This soloist did a beautiful rendition of "Silent Night/Noche de Paz" in English and Spanish accompanied by Guitar. It was the highlight of the night, in my opinion - just gorgeous to the ear:

You might recognize the Cast Member in the middle - she's my wife's favorite from the Parade of Dreams (she's the best aerialist/bird on the Lion King Float and is a caroler in the Christmas Fantasy Parade):

My son found the Processional to be very relaxing. After fighting it off all through dinner at the Napa Rose, he climbed into some stranger's lap next to us and promptly took a nap (and lady, I don't know who you are, but thank you!):

And at the end, he finally woke up when he was transferred to Mom's arms. Silent night, Peaceful night indeed!

Thank you so much for sharing your photos with us. They are beautiful.

Nice pics Froggie! I was going to post pics but for me they would have simply been switching out Hector for Andy and Froggette/Tadpole with some other person!

I thought Yamabuki's meal was OK considering it was about $50.00 per person. Menu was pre-planned so you couldn't really order anything from the sushi bar without having to pay extra. We also didn't see any Candlelight Processional 2006 items. I guess you Napa Rose folks received commerative wine glasses? All we got were plastic chopsticks!

Those are beautiful pictures, Frogberto! I was hoping someone would post some soon!

We got to see the stage all lit up on Thursday night, but without the singers up there, it was just nowhere near as gorgeous!

We've always aimed to avoid Candlelight weekend, because I remember reading in years past about the crowds....but it was surprisingly serene when we left at noon on Saturday and I think I would have liked to have seen the processional.

        Thank you!!

Anyone else find the somewhat Hidden Mickey in the holly on the CLR banners?

What happened after the CLR....Frogette closed her eyes through the entire Space Moutain ride?

Sunday night was a blast! We were able to complete seven rides in 1.5 hours! Wait times were only 15 minutes or less on each ride! Space Mountain had a wait time of 10 minutes right after CLP! Amazing!

I forgot to mention how windy it was - all of the water in both parks was filled with leaves and napkins, cups, etc. The fireworks were cancelled, and I also heard an announcement I hadn't heard before:

"Due to the unusually high winds, it is very doubtful that tonight's production of Fantasmic!" will go on as scheduled. We're very sorry for any inconvenience.

I didn't stick around to see if it actually did go or was cancelled.
