The OC district where I teach is done on the 20th. My son is out on the 21st. My sister and her husband are done teaching on the 22nd. I don't know of any schools that are already on vacation, but after next week, all bets are off.
Wow those grade schoolers are lucky this year. When I was in grade school I only got 2 weeks off and always went back on Jan 3rd or 4th. Pff.
Community colleges got out last week
They get an extra few days off at Christmas, but they will go a few extra days at the end of the year. It all depends on when Christmas falls. Locally, we get from the Friday before Christmas Eve for 2 weeks (return on the Tues after.) So, this year we are out from Dec 22-Jan 9th. We have a district that takes 2 weeks for Spring break, but they are also in school a week longer than the other local districts. So, you may have only gotten 2 weeks off, but you had a few more days of summer break. Our CSU started in Sept and was out last week, they start winter term Jan 3rd, but will be out after Spring term in mid May. All schools are different.
If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.
Placentia/Yorba Linda school district is not out until literally 12/25. Not sure if this is the same for other Orange County schools, but it could make for an ugly week after New Years, 1/2 - 1/5. (Socal AP's are NOT blocked out that week and it could get verrrrrrrrry crowded! )

Yep, everyone is required to have the same number of school days. How a district wants to break them up is up to the school board. My old district gave us a week off in February and we stayed a week late in June...and it was so worth it! I'm gonna miss that week.
