  • Red Rockets: Food gone downhill?

How is the food at Red Rocket's Pizza Port? Years ago it seemed pretty good, but the last time we ate there (July 2005) the cheese on the pizza tasted like it was artificial and the crust tasted like recycled cardboard.

Was it just a bad day or has the kitchen gone to cheaper ingredients? Do any AP'ers still eat there regularly? Or have you moved on to less highly processed alternatives?

We are going in April of this year and we'd like to plan out our schedule.

    What's the verdict on Red's?

Don't go on an off-season period, or one that just started. If you do that, then, in my experience, they really don't put remotely as much effort into preparing the food to do it justice.

If you go during a medium to very busy type of day, then it should be good.

I do suggest, however, that you try some other dining offerings within the parks. Cafe Orleans and Carnation Cafe are superb examples. Yes, a little more money than a place like Red Rockett's, but not by a lot, and you will be in a far nicer atmosphere with definitely good food.

I've never cared for their pizza, but their chicken fusilli and garlic bread is really good.

I've never been impressed with Redd's food. I've always found it to be bland and boring.

Their salads are awesome! Well, as long as they haven't been sitting too long.

The pizza at DTD's Napoli is much much better.

It seems like some of the pastas have increasingly become cheaper and not as well prepared. Their penne dish in particular seems to suffer from this. However, I love pasta, so it's not much of a problem for me.

Their stuff is ok. Not the biggest fan. Thier salads are good. I prefer the chicken sandwich over at Tomorrowland Terrace.

Re: Red Rockets: Food gone downhill?

It has definitely gone steadily downhill since opening (though I still like the chicken fusilli). The regular APers don't eat there much anymore...

Yeah I think their pizza cheese is gross. And whatever tomato sauce they use (for the pizza and pasta) is terrible. The salads are mediocre -- really, there are much better places to eat in the resort for the same price.

I agree, I love the fusilli and the foccacia, also a fan of the pizza salad.

I think that the difference with the fusili is that the sauce is not cooked onto the pasta. It's prepared separately and then added on during the plating process. I wouldn't try it with the chicken, however.

I've noticed that, although I seem to be generally happy with the food they serve there, the quality in pasta cooking tends to fluctuate. I've found that new fusili comes out ever few minutes, being the most popular past dish, and I just wait around until they bring out the new batch from the kitchen and it tends to be better because it has less time to sit out there and get dry.

Ive eaten their pizza once and didnt like it. I tried the pasta and loved it. So, if I go there, thats what I get. To me it hasnt gotten worse.

Thanks so much for all the input!!! Yes, that chicken sandwich at Tomorrowland Terrace was pretty tastey. I can best describe the Red Rocket's food we tasted back in 2005 as nasty grade school cafeteria pasta and rubber pizza.
