  • Disneyland: Rehab or Expand ?

Disneyland has been making real progress recently in terms of upkeep, but there are still lots of reports of place (like Main Street) that could use some work.

So what would you prefer ?

Should Disneyland focus on getting all of the existing attractions up to top form or should then look into bringing in new attractions ?

Obviously they are going to do some of both, but if they focused on rehab they could get everything built up.

Disneyland is already fun of great attractions. However, all it needs is a little TLC. I wish I took a pic of the men's bathroom door next to the Plaza Inn. If Walt saw that, some heads would be rollin'. A light bulb should NEVER be burnt out in the park, chipped paint should never go more than a couple days before noticed and fixed.

Even if the park expanded with just one major addition a year, the pace would keep up.

I say focus on sprucing up what they have, then once that is complete, expand!

Disneyland should be the crown jewel of the Walt Disney Company.

To me, and this is perhaps because I am an infrequent overseas tourist (damn tourists, yeah?) but Disneyland still offers SOOOO much to do - we're looking at something like 50 attractions - that expansion wouldn't necessarily be a top priority. The place seems to be of a resonably high standard of upkeep, something they are known for, and aside from a little TLC as mentioned (paint flakes, chipped corners, cracks in the pavement, anything else people are starting to notice), it is still a place that Disney can point to with pride. After all, when you compare it with virtually every other non-Disney park around the world, the ambience kicks them in the rear end.

As far as new attractions go, with space at a premium, we could almost settle on one newish attraction (in the C to E range) every couple of years. A new one every year - as has been suggested - would mean ten new major attractions by the year 2017, but that would either mean 10 things would have to go (space being tight as it is, without a MAJOR expansion) or Disneyland would end up a vastly different place. Given the current mood on these forums - one of utter fear and pitch-fork carrying whenever the 'C' word (change, not coconut) is mentioned - major overall redesign doesn't seem to be something that fans would desire.

Besides, as the saying goes: if it ain't broke...

        I'd say both.

Both. But nothing new should be greenlit until Rocket Jets and PeopleMover (or equivalents) are fixed - - which should be ASAP. Tomorrowland must be wholly functional again. It's Disneyland's Number One priority.

I think it can do a bit of both as well. I do wish that they would come up with new, and good, ideas that would fill up some of the empty spaces they have in the park though. I would like to also see the, replace Pooh, Innoventions, and Honey I Shrunk the Audience as well. I think those should be replaced with newer attractions.

Thanks, Barfownz. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle.

Now that's an interesting idea. Make DCA the focus of expansion and DL the focus of rehab and polishing.

It seems like their plate is full of new attractions in the next few years, so that's covered. Isn't the majority of their rehabs done around this time anyway?
Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it the four beers you had at DCA, hmmm?
