  • Fortune Red!

UPDATE: I visited Disneyland yesterday and I ran into Dave who is an Arcade Maintenance Engineer, he was working on Shrunken Ned in Adventureland, I figure he of all people would know what happened to Fortune Red. He told me not only is he alive and well, that he was refurbished at the same time that they did the Pieces of Eight and that he was given a paint job and new clothing! He confirmed that Fortune Red was slated to be returned to the Pieces of Eight from the beginning but the designers did not allocate a spot to put him in the refurb.. he said that he is sitting in storage inside Disneyland somewhere and that many of the engineers were disappointed that he was left out of the plans. He told me to go into City Hall and leave a comment that Fortune Red should be returned and it could possibly help.. so I pass this information along to you if you choose to help...

Great news. Thanks for the update.

Did you get any information as to why the Pieces of Eight machine returned only to have a "Out of Order" sticker on it, and was finally removed for good?

        Ditto.

My ritual for every trip I made to Disneyland was to get a Fortune Red card.

I was happy to see the Pieces of Eight machine back,
but on another trip, I too saw the out of order sign.
I tried it anyway, and the machine was actually working.
Disappointed that Pieces of Eight was removed, again.

And I love Shrunken Ned, I alway stop by to have him

              Re: Fortune Red!

              Just sent them the email.

I mentioned Pieces of Eight as well...fact of the matter is, Disneyland doesn't have a lot of unique merchandise left that is affordable. Both Fortune Red and the Pieces of Eight machine are part of that unique Disneyland experience and need to be kept in the park.

When a get the message back, I'll post up their response

Yeah, they need to bring him back.

                      Re: Fortune Red!

Whoever redesigned the store should be sacked. I really hope they restore the machine soon. It's a tradition of mine to get a fortune every time I ride Pirates.
Since the machine is absent, here's a hi-res scan I made of the back of the card with all of the pirate flags. Works well as a poster.

if there is no room fo him they should put him in the Bat en Rouge Store as it is Pirate themed too.

                            Re: Fortune Red!

To say that no room was allocated for Fortune Red seems a cop-out to me. Before it was removed it was basically in a corner. Given the fact that the machine is only about 3 feet wide it would seem to me, especially with Pieces of Eight and Port Royal now being linked by the courtyard (basically making one very large retail space), they could find...or make... room for it.

How can there be no room for Fortune Red!? There's Pieces of Eight, the old Le Bat en Rouge (the new name escapes me), and the alley/alcove between the two shops! All of this space is filled with pirate merchandise, yet they can't find a quiet little corner for FR? Poppycock!
