What is the difference between Soarin' over California at DCA and Epcot?

Nothing. Although I think its just called "Soarin'" at Epcot.

From what I've heard and read, absolutely nothing. Nada!

I have been on both. The actual ride is exactly the same. The pre-show, however, is actually better at DCA. The line there waits in a line flanked with portaits of heros of aviation who are from California and the famous planes that have a connection to the state.

At Epcot, the theme is to reproduce an airport. It has colorful walkways but no pictures except for three large, lighted scenes of nature from the movie.

One is misplaced in a Futuristic Theme Park and the other is in an unfinished parking lot.

So in Orlando's version, you still go over Disneyland at Christmas time?

Yep, the EPCOT version is just called Soarin', but it is the EXACT same film (and Pre-load video) with all the names of the California Cities, the ONLY change was where he says "Welcome to Soarin' over California", they did an audio edit, and cut out the "over California", but his lips still move.

The queue is really the only difference between the two venues. The film and ride operating system are the same.

If you read into it, like I do, it's not hard to figure out that the "California" version of this ride is only temporary. How temporary remains to be seen. Rumours persist about a "Soarin' over Florida" (or "America" or the "World" or "you fill in the blank"), so your guess is as good as mine. Interested to see how this plays out

Surely the fact they are on different sides of the country is a major difference...

Mostly a different queue... that's it.

There are some minor technical differences in the ride system between the two, but nothing you can notice without being told where to look. Mark Sumner (the Imagineer/engineer who designed the ride system and built the infamous erector set model) had to point them out to me

                              Re: What's the difference...

There really was not suppose to be a difference between the two.

Every "Disney" theme park was suppose to "give" DisneyWorld a gift as part of its celebration in 2006.
                              • Disneyland's gift was "Soarin'" at Epcot.
                              • EuroDisney's gift was a stunt show at the MGM.
                              • DisneyToyko's gift was a princess show in front of the castle at the Magic Kingom.
                              • DisneyHongKong was new and really only gave a detailed construction, map, and "what's there", located at that the China World Showcase.
