  • Booking airline tickets to Disneyland

I am currently making plans for our 2007 trip in September. We have finally convinced my 6 year old daughter to fly! Hurray! We can get to Disneyland in one day! I have never done much flying myself so I could use some advice as to when to book airline tickets. Right now the tickets seem like a good deal compared to what we paid last year at the last minute. However, I have received some offers that are $100 less but must be used before May. Of course, we are still 9 months away from our planned dates. Is it best to book airlines early in advance or wait to see if the fares go down? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You let your six year old dictate your travel plans?

For last November I booked April/May to make sure we got what we wanted. I have already booked last week for April this year & by April I will book September's trip. Then I have to give my budget a break with no trips planned after that.

I usually suggest to start looking about 6 months out - but, you never know when there's going to be an airfare war or prices just go down! It depends on where you're flying from really - If you have lots of flights going in and out, not a big deal, but if it's a small airport with only one flight a day, then you just need to get on the flight!

Well, since we do consider it a family vacation we do take everyone into consideration. We have never been one to force our children to do things they don't like, especially if there are other options. Thus far we have always drove or took the train. She was not the only one who wasn't crazy at the propect of flying. However, this year we opted to fly home and we were all in agreement that it would save a lot of time this year.

Back to my question, thanks for the suggestions so far.

I always book airfare and hotel together for our trips. I check expedia and a few other sites. Seems like prices are running a bit higher this year!

Bring gum for the plane, fly in the morning, and tell the flight attendent that your daughter is a little nervous (my guess is she'll be changing her mind around the time you board the plane) and ask to meet the pilot. Bring a snack because airline ones are rarely good. And I always fly southwest so the prices are pretty consistant.

I guess that did sound a bit harsh, sorry.

"Whoever wants to go to DISNEYLAND better get their butt on that plane!!!" has always worked well for me

Do a air/hotel package and you will get a better rate. Fall fares will go on sale shortly after the 4th of July.

No problem! If I thought that would work I might have tried that too! My son was the easy one who could be swayed with a good threat or bribe but this daughter of mine...

Oh, another question..... We came back last year on Southwest. It was fine but the economy seats were not assigned so we ended up scattered all over the plane. Is that usually the case or is American any different?

With American they do assign seats. The best way to get seats with Southwest is print your boarding pass 24 hours prior to departure so you can get in the A group.
