I say take the gold paint off the lamps, but leave the castle as is. Quite frankly, I've never seen Sleeping Beauty Castle look so marvelous. It's much better than having a faded castle that looks like it's not being maintained and preserved. Disneyland's castle is always called "charming" compared to Cinderella at WDW. Now, I'd say it's spectacular!
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
ORWEN: Well, if they'd maintain the castle all the time--the way they're supposed to do--it wouldn't ever have to look so faded as it did during the Pressler era.
ORDDU: As for the color's of the castle, they really should reflect more closely what the colors were from the animated film--SLEEPING BEAUTY. Gray stone walls with white upper towers and red rooves.
ORWEN: Of course we'd be willing to settle for the blue rooves that have traditionally been there. Too much gold paint on stone seems out of place. I'd like them to paint it the same way Hong Kong Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle has been painted. There will still be gold leaf highlights on the spires so--no matter what--you'll still have some gold on the castle
About the lamposts. The 55th anniversary is the Emerald Anniversary, we can just say they are getting a jump start on it.
"If we cut the budget are you going to be the one standing at the exit explaining to guests why the ride they just rode is a piece of crap?" - - John Lasseter
the gold was for the anniversary which was good however it shouldn;t stay except just as one lamppost or something of that nature small and not gaudy and then when the next anniversary comes they can decorate again for that one
The fountain of youth really is in Florida... thats why they built Walt Disney World where they did.
If you look at photos and tv specials that predate the '80s, you'll see the castle was originally kind of gray with blue roofs (pretty much the color scheme of Cinderella Castle). I think the pink and blue was done sometime in the '80s.
Didn't need to see the specials. That's how the castle looked when I was growing up in the 70s.
For the 100th, the mega shopping mall at 1313 Harbor Boulevard will erect a small plaque reading, "Former site of Disneyland."
"Yesterday, a man walked up to me and said, 'Isn't it a shame that Walt Disney couldn't be here to see this?' and I said, "He did see this, that's why it's here."

I think some of the trim wouild look nice being left but there still was a bit too much. at least it is still better than WDW, where they leave full anniversary decorations in place 7 years later.....
I would have liked at least the gold lampposts to stay,
as a tribute to DL's 50th. The color looked great and
blended in fine, even for the fall and Christmas decorations!
And some of the gold highlights on the Castle should
stay, too. Seems that Walt's 1st park should have
that something special for the 50th live on with the park.
I can't wait for the 75th! Year of the Diamond! I want to help plan it...the park will be so beautiful if it's done well...so many more classy options than gold.
I think it would be great if there were a place in the park celebrating each landmark anniversary. I wasn't alive for the 25th, but if there was a place in the park that had a decoration from it that'd be awesome!
