  • Question About Ariel's Grotto

This is a semi-serious question and less of a joke as it might appear...

So, Ariel's Grotto sells seafood. Ariel is also on site in a meet and greet photo op.

What do the Cast Members and Ariel herself tell the children about the fish they're eating when Ariel's best friend is a fish?

Honestly, I'm wondering how they word this issue to guests...

Haha... Well, parents will just have to think of a creative response, I guess. Or just be honest and tell them they're eating fish much like their beloved cartoon friends. Crab anyone? Oh look, Sebastian...

I mean, hot dogs probably contain half of Critter Country's critters. And the entire cast of Home On The Range comes on buns throughout the resort. So the whole issue is inevitable, unless you manage to keep your children from either cartoons or meat for their entire youths.

I'd say a little of every critter there.

If Big Thunder Ranch was converted into Little Patch of Heaven Burger Stand, I'd ask the same question over there...

Problem solved, Ariel is no longer a character at Ariel's Grotto... Last fall, They decided to change (update) characters at many places, including Paradise Pier (Now Stitch), Plaza Inn (now the Princesses), and to help draw crowds, for the first time ever, feature Mickey Mouse at a Character meal at Ariel's Grotto...

Well, they made the switchouts at the other locations, but kept delaying the Ariel's Grotto switchover The problem was switching out all the signage, including the fancy Marquee (which was original paid for by Wolfgang Puck), and only had minor modifications when Disney took over. Well, just before Thanksgiving, they made the character switch, and Captain Mickey and friends (which include Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Lilo and Stitch), plus a non-Disney Face Character (the internal term is a AGVA performer) called Capt. Rustworthy, who interacts with the kids and plays games with them....

Now they have a big problem, explaining to guests where Ariel is when they show up at her grotto....

Yeah, I thought I saw Goofy out at the deck when I was checking out the 75 Mickey statues around DCA. That explains it.

They should change the name of the restaurant...

A lot of people agree, including the management of the restaurant, but it has been deemed "too expensive"

Heck, restaurant management had no clues until two things happened, one, the entertainment CM's reported on the possible changeover from a meeting, and that maintenance staff was coming in taking measurements, etc. inside the restaurant.....

Well, it is quite a sign out front. It's really elaborate. Oh well.
Again, about they blame it on having no money. Cheap company...

You could always go to DCA guest relations and make a comment about gettting the sign changed....

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive.
If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

With all this talk of "off the shelf" and "on the back-burner" it seems the only thing that DCA is really missing is the kitchen sink!
