  • Is This What DL's Parade Almost Looked Like?

The Danbury Mint has had a piece called "The Disneyland Express"
available for at least a year. Take a CLOSE look at the picture here.

As you can see, it's a six piece train (just a figure set, it does NOT
actually run on a track). Each car represents a different land, and
very nicely detailed, with each car containing different attractions
from the land it represents, along with several Disney characters.

The interesting thing about this set is that the very first piece looks
Identical to Disneyland's Parade of Dreams 1st Float!!! The only
difference in the 1st car is that this set has a faux train track as
it's base, so it doesn't have the Mickey Floral, however it has as it's
front, the front of a train engine, with the back part being part of the
    train station.

The 2nd car represents Adventureland, with the front part being a
Jungle Cruise Boat. The Fantasyland car Dumbo flying in front above
a Teacup being occupied by Snow and Dopey, with the Castle in the middle, and then part of the Small World facade, The Frontierland
car has the Mark Twain as the front part and a stagecoach as the
back part, New Orleans Sqare has the front part as the Haunted
Mansion with the 3 Hitchhiking ghosts, and the back part as a pirate
ship with Pirate Donald on board, the last car is primarily Space Mt
with Huey Dewy and Louie riding in Astro Orbitor Jets around Space Mt.

There are several other characters in these pieces, each Dressed
appropriately for the land they are representing.

I know that one of the ideas tossed around on this chat board, as
well as others, is that DL's 50th parade should be based on the
variouse lands, and this set from the Danbury Mint certainly raises
suspicions that we almost had this in real life. Of course there are
a couple of lands that are not in this set (Critter Country and
Toontown) there may have been plans to include units for these
    lands too.

As good as the current Parade of Dreams is now, I can't help but
think that a Parade with a continued theme of the different lands
    would have even been better.
Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. Ya can't cover pooh with honey and 'spect people ta like it.

Now THAT would be a parade worth seeing.
The floats they use now? Snore.

How quick we are to tire of these floats. Sad. Cause that last parade is pretty cool, if you remember back to the 5 year long "Parade of Stars" or whatever it was...

I don't believe that was what the parade of dreams was meant to be. I believe there were different concepts on the table, and I heard that Steve boiled it down to about three. The one we see today is the one that won out. Again, this is just what I had heard. A lot of people have said that since they took the direction of the fireworks to celebrate the lands of the park, that they wanted something different for the parade. They decided to go with a more classical approach with units based off of popular animated films. It does seem like many of the fans would like to see a land based parade, and I am sure somewhere down the road we will probably see one. The concept makes sense, and it could be beautifully done. The image that you linked to though is an interesting way of looking at that kind of concept.

Oh that parade was awful! It just looked like they couldn't come up with anything so they just threw something together and hoped it worked!

I love the current parade. However, I will say I have armchair imagineered a parade like the one shown. A land based parade could be really cool.

I heard the same thing too. Although it does look like one of TDL's parades looks as if it were inspired by the many lands of DL I dont remember the name of it but it uses the same song that MK uses for The Dreams Come True Parade.

I think the 3 parade options were what we have now (Dream of Adventure, Fantasy, Another World, etc- they really should have had mini-title floats or banners, or a title on each float so guests knew what dream it is), the different land parade units, and I think a parade that pays tribute to past parades (ala Party Gras, Aladdin, Mulan, Lion King, Hercules).

See, this is more of what I was expecting with the Parade of Dreams.

While the way it turned out is nice, it is supposed to be celebrating DISNEYLAND, not Disney in general...kind of goes against the theme a bit, don't you think?

Besides, I love the introspective "metatheatre" aspect of it that way.

That would be a nice concept for the next parade, which is suppose to coincide with the 55th anniversary after the Parade of Dreams finishes its five year run.
