  • The little NYE TR that could (but it's very, very late. And very, very too much pics)

This is very late, but with the very positive responses from my most recent trip, I decided to go back and hit the highlights from our NY 2007 trip. Enjoy!

Left at about 4am to make the trip from NorCal to DL

This sign at Burger King carried the wisdom of the ages.

Due to the Grapevine being closed (snow?! in SCA?), we got rerouted through Mojave/Bakersfield. Weird!

These things are everywhere down there!

Hit Magic Mountain first this time. Superman looks fun, but looks can be deceiving.

Yep, they can use a little TLC.

Night approaches. It's almost bedtime for the coasters.

    Double reality?

Friday night was capped off by a visit to the El Capitan to see The Nightmare Before Christmas... in 3D!

However, we showed up about an hour early, so we walked around a bit first. The "L. Ron. Hubbard Winter Wonderland" was a bit surreal, with the clowns, snow, and mariachi music playing.

The El Capitan is very beautiful, both inside and out. They had nice Christmas decoration all about.

This guy played Disney songs on his organ until he sunk into the ground. With the cape, he was a little scary, until I later saw what he looks like from the front. Not scary.

Saturday morning. Everybody is happy to be here!

Pipes in Roger Rabbit. I have no idea what they're transporting. Hopefully, not the Dip.

    Oh no! I was wrong!

Went to DCA nice and early. I love this building.

This was the first time I'd ventured in here. I had no idea it was there!

This is the second-creepiest Ariel in the park.

I miss this guy when he's gone.

Night at DCA. I wish they'd do something with this area. It's so nice-looking.

Most of DCA is very beautiful at night.

Especially during Christmas time (this spot is occupied by a lonely tree the rest of the year).

The old Space Mountain. It looks just like the new one!

    Loading/unloading.

IASW is also much more appealing during the holidays. Almost too much so, I spend a lot of time there, which is odd, because the ride drives me insane.

After the fireworks (watched from the IASW area), you get the snow! (or soap bubbles, whatever).

    Beware Davy Jones!

    California Adventure's cool sign.

The Soarin' rocket-thing blasts a group of unsuspecting kids.

They don't seem to have a problem with it, despite the cold night air.

    Disney's Electrical Parade?

I hadn't seen this since I was very young. I really like it! Too bad it doesn't run most of the year.

This was completely unintentional, but it worked out nicely.

Christmas tree, Christmas fireworks. No snow in DCA, though

I never noticed (until this trip) that Grizzly Peak... is a bear.

    DCA's NY setup.

    The old Screamin'

A piece of the old Screamin's track. Remember what it was like?

The HTH. My favorite ride in DCA.

King Arthur runs his Carrousel at 90mph, apparently.

This beautiful tree is yet another casualty of the annual Christmas-light-removal campaign.

    See, pretty!

A rare view of Fantasmic from a gap in the trees behind the Big Thunder Mountain area.

It's cool being able to see the crowds from the front, and the show from the back.

Every 15 minutes or so, the lights on IASW would suddenly shut off, and a little animated Christmas show with music would play.

It was very unexpected (and unannounced). But very cool.

The electro-reindeer guards electro-IASW at night.

I went on the ride (once!) to see the holiday overlay.

    I win!

This is a funny picture. I somehow got that one family standing still to take their picture, and everybody else is moving.

Remember the old Splash Mountain? Better hold on to those memories, I hear it's coming back as Rockin' Splash Mountain! (with Creed's "Higher" playing).

Even the bunnies are sad about that.

The birds, though... are not. They're Creed fans.

    Can't tell with these two.

    Sunday, 12/31. Nice crowds!

I'm not in this picture, but the guy in the corner on his phone amused me. The girl making some kind of hand gestures, not so much.

It was odd that the Christmas parade wheels a Christmas tree... past their Christmas tree. Dad? Is that you?

Miss the Fantasmic pre-show? The NYE one had some girl singing New Orleans-style music.

    Oh No!

Don't worry, it ended up okay.

Holiday fireworks, as viewed from the river.

DCA had some interesting projections up. This one was next to the net full of fish.

This one was... well, you know where it was.

They also left the Happy New Year! float over by the wheel.

The castle was lit up in hundreds of colors, most of the night.

Reflections in an ornament on the big tree.

    The big tree, sans reflections

Okay, those are most of the good ones. Thanks for looking, and hopefully you can tell that DL is the place to be, come NYE 2008. Of course, the gates lock at about 11am, so get there early!

    Thanks for looking.

                          Good morning, son
                          In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                          It was pain
                          Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
