  • Tom Sawyer Pirate Island Refurb. Story

An interesting story from the refurb of the island from a source that is working on the refurb...

Just yesterday, crews were breaking up the faux rock around Injun' Joe's cave and made a startling discovery. Behind the facade and placed between the support braces was found a case of Coke bottles and a case of 7-Up bottles--in perfect conditions. It looks like the original building crew from back in the 50's left a little time capsule for the future...unearthed yesterday.

          Very cool!
I love it when people do that!
I try to do that with any work I do on my house.

That's cool. I found a reel of film in my mom's house in the middle of helping her move that isn't ours, we're gonna try to watch it and see what it is.

Stealin' Injun Joe's Soda? He's gonna be pissed.

He's liable to hunt 'em all down and give 'em a strip-tease or somethin'.

Cool! Wonder if the building crew left other things for people to find.
                  She did it!

Actually, my "secret source" knows that someone took some pictures, but he himself is trying to get a hold of some...I'll post 'em if and when I get 'em.

Supposedly construction is a madhouse on the island and major upgrades are being done on Fantasmic as well--none of which should change the show, but rather ensure that things run more smooth.

When you get some pictures, say thanks to your "Secret Source" for me.

Wouldn't surprise anyone that worked in the building restoration field (like we're often involved with) or the demolition field. If they were genuinely startled...they must have been rookies.

On almost ever restoration project of old buildings, you find dozens of examples of this. Old newspapers, old soda bottles, bottle caps, cigarette packages...occasionally an old tool. All kinds of stuff between the walls. Often the workers write stuff on the inside of the walls. Some of it's pretty funny and some of it's pretty dirty. Some just sign their name and date it.

Very, very common all over the world. I've even seen it myself at Disneyland the few times I was able to see demolition or refurb work in progress.

As common as it might be, it's always fun when you come across it!

Wonder if they found an empty pack of Walt's Chesterfields?
