  • How big and where, exactly, is the old Motor Boat Cruise area?

I'm throwing around some ideas for DL with myself and thought of something to put in the old Motor Boat Cruise area. I won't say what it is now because it might not even work. So I need to know...how big? Where? Pics? Thank you so much in advance.
    Still wishing for that AP....

Directly behind the Matterhorn, to the East of it's a small world, and under, around and through the Fantasyland Autopia.

See the following thread for some shots of the load area, in which we're proposing a Nautilus be salvaged from WDW for display there:

Here is a picture i took back in January. It's a good sized area but it's definetly not huge.

The Motorboat Cruise ran all the way from the docks to the Submarine Lagoon, where they pulled a U-Turn and headed back toward the docks. There's a "dam" that separated the muddy Motorboat Cruise waters from the clear chlorinated Sub Lagoon waters.

So that red circle should extend down all the way to the Sub Lagoon (bottom Autopia bridge there) to give you an idea of the total area the boats ran through.

Here's some pictures I shot of the "dam" and dock before Nemo construction began:

The MBC area is a complicated spot to plop down a new attraction. First off, the shape is awkward, if a showbuilding were to cover all of it the building would resemble the state of Florida. Secondly, you have to keep working around all the rides which intertwine around there, Monorial above, Peoplemover above, Autopia on ground, and Sub showroom below. Now they must also work around the sub emergency exit.

If I were to plan an attraction for the spot, I would actually make the enterence right near the damn between the Lagoon and MBC. The long skinny section which would be difficult to plan a ride in would be dedicated to a queue and it would also connect to the sub emergency exit. The large area to the top has less run-ins with other attractions and allows for a larger more realistic showroom.
Women, they make the highs higher and the lows more frequent.

I thought they buried all the Nautilus subs except for one that they moved to their island for the Disney cruise line. They are no more.

I say they redo the Autopia while they add a new attraction in. That way room can be properly laid out for both to be integrated together.

Here's the whole story of the Nautilus fleet at this photo-filled site!:

                    http://www.20kride.com/photos_after.html

                    To synopsize:

Two Nautili were sent to Castaway Cay (and have since disappeared).

All but one of the rest were stripped and junked.

The good news: One Nautilus was cut in half (top/bottom) and the top fiberglass hull was put on display at WDW - - this one still survives backstage at Epcot - and has been used for promotional event decor - - but is currently unused!

See pics at link or other thread.

It is that giant rocky thing you see when looking into the lagoon. It was originally described as an island for a showscene, but in construction is has actually turned out to be an extension of the entry tunnel into about half of the lagoon.

No. Apparrently the exit pathways have been installed in the dry back rivers of Motor Boat Cruise, but the MBC front load pool area by the dock is staying wet.

Are they "drying up" the old MBC lagoons? Meaning, will they be landscaped areas instead of ponds now?
