When is the best time to go in the summer.

My friend and I are planning a trip to Disneyland as a last road trip/outing for the two of us before college...

When is the best time to go in the summer?

Last year i went in early August and the crowds were relativly light, but was that just a fluke?

Not really, but be sure to go before the SoCals get unblocked. It will probably be really busy when that happens. Otherwise, try to avoid July 4th and Fridays and Saturdays. I find it to be busy during the summer, but bearable much of the time.

Late June (seriously) and late August.

Go Monday-Thursday. I was there early August last year and it was much less crowded than early August from the previous year. I think in 2005 crowds were especially big because of the 50th anniversary celebration which started in May of that year. So I do not think it was a fluke that crowds were light last summer during weekdays.

Not sure how many days you are planning to stay, or how much time in the parks is too much. Park hours are maxed out in the summer (8AM-Noon) and if you can tolerate 16 hours in the park then go for it. If 12 hours a day is enough for you, it is better to get to the gates early, ride lots of rides when the lines are short, collect Fastpasses, and then take a break back to your hotel mid-day for several hours. Get in a swim and/or a nap. Come back to the parks late afternoon/early evening and stay late. Lines get much less crowded after 10PM at night.

Probably busy. There are a lot of So Cal schools that start their spring break next week so people are still on vacation.

The July calendar is up at the Disneyland website and they are showing closing hours for the first two weeks in July at 11pm, then they go into the midnight closing later in July. I wonder if they think it will be slower then. I hope so since we'll be there June 27 - July 5th! Yes, eight nights is a lot, but we try to take a lot breaks at the Neverland pool.
