  • Golden Zephyr getting yanked?

    Hey all.

According to Screamscape, the Golden Zephyr might be removed to make way for a lighthouse to control the Wonderful World of Color light show:

If the latest rumors are true, final budget approval for the Wonderful World of Color show project had been given and it may be around the range of $65 million right now. One interesting aspect of the project however is a rumor that they may need to remove the Golden Zephyr and replace it with a massive themed Lighthouse tower that will serve as the show control center for the show.
My take? A lighthouse might add more theming, and I'm not sure that many people would even miss the Zephyr. Even if you would, it just might be worth it if the World of Color is as spectacular as rumored.

      I completely agree!

The Golden Zephyr is full of problems actually. It cant run in wind, or rain. Pretty much a small wind will force the ride down. It might be a good idea but i want to ride it before it goes bye bye.

I remeber in one of Al's posts that the zephyr would stay but be moved eith farther down are to the left side of Paradise Pier.

            Yea... same here.

Though I always thought that the Zephyrs had some sort of simple, charming quality to them.

Hopefully if its true, then the lighthouse would be just as lavishly lit as the Zephyr is. The Zephyr is sort of the gateway to Paradise Pier for that side of the park.

Maybe they could put in a lighthouse slide, so that the building is used even on off days.

Though I thought that when they did Luminaria, the control center was on the second floor of that unused San Fran building. Why wouldnt that area work?

I thought it said it was being removed along with MM and Stinger and that Maliboomer was being moved... I could be wrong.

Yep. Prime contender for dullest ride in the parks.

                    Lets see here...

On one hand... One of the few rides at DCA a whole family can ride together...

On the other hand... It's an incredibly lame excuse for one.

                    Toughy...

                    Hmmm...

What to do... What to do...

Leave the golden zephyer and remove the orange stinger and put that lighthouse there.

I thought I had read in an Al article that that whole west side of DCA is mostly on it's way out.

Golden Zepher is actually slated to be moved up near the current area of Orange Stinger during Placemaking, so A massive control tower might be added, but not as a replacement.
