  • Sleeping Beauty's Royal Celebration!

    Hey guys!

I was wondering if any of you came down the the park today to see the opening day of Sleeping Beauty's Royal Celebration?

It looked like all the dancers were having a good time performing for two pretty large crowds in the Hub, and most of the Guests seemed to enjoy watching it as well.

    What are your thoughts?

        Where Was Ariel?

If this is to be a Princess event, then where was Ariel? I realize she's a Mermaid, but they could have done something to include her and Prince Eric. Infact, they could have shown Ariel (for the first time) in *human form*, cuz she did appear that way in the movie a few times.

Anyway, I was there today for the debut of SBRC, and even tho it was cute, I still thought it needed some work. Some of the performers seemed a little unenthused with what they were doing and it seemed too staged and not very natural to me. The concept of the *show* is great, but it still needs some tweaking to make it better.

Over all, it was cute and I would see it again.

Almost no one has, and that's because it was created in a VERY short time span. But hopefully this will make sense:

Basically, there are going to be three "Character Celebrations" which will run until the Parade of Dreams opens in May.

The first one (Sleeping Beauty's Royal Celebration) opened today. The second one (Mickey's Magic Kingdom Celebration) will open on February 11th, which means the Shining Star Cavalcade will close on the 10th. And then the third one (Mary Poppins' Supercalifragilistic-its-a-celebration) will open February 18th.

All three will run until May, but it's damn near impossible to try to mount three productions at the same time. Needless to say, we have rehearsals almost every night until Mary Poppins opens. ;-)

There are 3 showtimes every day, but it'll almost always be one showing of one and then two showings of another. Right now, it's Cavalcade/Sleeping Beauty/Sleeping Beauty. Once MMKC opens, it might be Sleeping Beauty/Mickey/Mickey, or vice versa...

I hope that all made sense!

The best way I would put it...

...is that these three Character Celebrations are going to be the "filler" entertainment until Parade of Dreams. Very good filler, but essentially placeholders in order to still provide some large entertainment.

And the Shining Star Cavalcade, therefore, is/was a placeholder until the Celebrations could get up and running.

Wow, I maybe I can get a shot with Burt and Mary Poppins at the same time?

It'll definitely flow better as tomorrow and the future come... It was our first time with actual Guests, so it was VERY interesting to be suddenly surrounded by children we didn't select, you know? ;-)

And I'm totally with you about Ariel. I still think that, at the end of Fantasmic, she should be standing as a human on the Twain wearing that blue-ish dress from the day they go riding around the kingdom!

It's a great use of the characters and a great way to use all of the various characters from Disney movies so that a large number of people can see their favorites.

This is part of the reason I didn't like seeing the princesses go to the Plaza Inn for breakfasts because then 50 people paying for food get to see these characters whilst tens or hundreds (maybe thousands) of people could have had the chance to see them if they were where they used to be pre-princess breakfast at the front of the castle.

Although this Princess celebration isn't as intimate as meeting the characters in a meet-and-greet for a lot of kids it doesn't matter as they saw their favorite character live and in the flesh (literally and figuratively... for some of the characters ) and I'm sure for many it makes their day just to see them!

People love to see characters and having them crammed in a building where a few people are eating essentially loses the chance for lots more magic for people who aren't eating there. These character celebrations are a great way to offset that "defecit of magic," if you will.

I hope Mickey's Shining Star Cavalcade and these character celebrations aren't just filler for when larger offerings aren't availble. I hope we see lots more of these types of "character moments" in the future!

Bravo to the creative minds behind these!

Does this follow a route or does it just happen in a certain area?

This sounds kind of like a "Not-A-Parade" to make up for the fact that the 45th parade closed. If it's just a bunch of characters coming out and hanging out in an open spot, I can see that drawing a mob. But at the same time I can't picture a march of rubberheads without a big parade accompanying them working out too well. Unless they really pull out ALL their rubberheads, including the ones you almost never see (Jimminy Cricket, anyone?)

The Celebrations are semi-parade and semi-show. All three will come out of the parade gates at the beginning of Main Street. Sleeping Beauty's Royal Celebration parade go down the entire Main St and stop at the Castle Forecourt for a show. Mickey's Magic Kingdom Celebration will stop at the north end of Main St. (Coke Corner) and Mary Poppins' Supercalifragilistic It's a Celebration will stop at the south end of Main St.

And "HI" to TweedlDum9! It's Reindeer8 here ! And I can't believe I'm still up at 3:30am when I have to wake up at 5:30am and make it down to the resort for auditions at 8:00am. AHHHH!

I saw the show today. Granted I'm not a Princess type guy, but I think all the little ones about really enjoyed it. I think the crowd control was the hardest part for the poor CMs.

I saw they were keeping the enterance of the castle clear and everyone around me thought they'd be dancing in the center area, but they just stayed on the street.

That's a shame. I think it would have been good to see them all waltzing around in front of SB's Castle.

I took some pics of the Princess Character Celebration yesterday (1-31-05) - you can view them here:

This goes up Main street and stops in front of the castle. The palce to view this is in front of the castle. Both sides of the street have their good and bad points.

If you sit so you are looking at the castle more of the dancing will be facing you.

If you sit with your back to the castle then you get to see some of the characters walk right by you.

But despite where you sit - try to get directly in fron to the castle. There is 3 'floats' in this, the main one parks in front of the castle and the two smaller ones are off on each side.

After the show is over they walk back down Main street. Quite a nice little show, my daughter loved it.

I was totally thinking the same thing! I knew the costumes and floats looked way too familiar.
