  • DCA needs a mountain

Some of the best loved attractions of Disneyland are the mountains, Space, Splash, Big Thunder, and Matterhorn. But DCA has no mountains despite the fact that California is a very mountainous state. I know that an open mountain would expose guests to the outside world, but an enclosed mountain would give DCA another E ticket while providing another visual icon for the park. Building UP would also better use its limited land.

I am not thinking of a cloned ride from some other park, but a totally unique ride that would give DCA a signature experience.

    What do you think?

    What theme would you use?

Isn't GRR considered a *mountain* and a signature point of DCA?

Originally on the Drawing Board for DCA, "Smog Mountain" lost support in the end... just another "Grey Sky" Idea that never made it to fruition...

Grizzly Peak is a relatively prominent feature of DCA, and while not to my tastes, GRR is an "E" ticket ride associated with that "mountain". I do agree that more quality rides are needed at DCA, but the danger of DCA becoming an "amusement" park, rather than "theme" park cannot be overlooked in the selection and design process of these new attractions.

I don't see GRR as an E ticket right now. It has the size of an E ticket, but not the feeling IMO. Adding the AAs to the attraction as rumored will make it an E ticket for me.

Since both the Storyland Canal Boats and the Peoplemover were "D" tickets, I'd say GRR qualifies as a solid "E" ticket . But, to each his own--it would be GRReat with AA's, though.

I rememeber as a kid going to DL and seeing construction on CA, at the time I had no idea what was going on. But I do remember the GRR was in its skelleton stage and we all thought it was going to be Pride Rock....boy were we ever disapointed

Obviously too realistic. Where's the imagination ?

PLus, it would disappear on normal summer days ...

How about a ride about a volcano underneath the streets of L.A.? It should be a pretty scary ride if they include an Anne Heche AA.

I think they should change the name of Grizzly River Run to "BEAR MOUNTAIN". It's easier and I've wanted to call it that since it opened because of the bear at the top. Bear Mountain flows better instead of Grizzly River Run.

Instead get ride of GRR all together and turn it into Lost the ride, sure its not in CA, but hey Disney will do anything to premote what they offer haha

                            still more DCA haterism......

GRR is fine, sure it's like any other rapid ride but its FUN and there was EFFORT put into it, The mountain itself is very creative & is the signature icon of that park. Animatronics would make it even better, but theres nothing wrong with the ride.

That is one of the few things that they did right when building DCA
                            leave it alone!

and once again..... Stop taking up space in line if you dislike it so much
i hate the hour long wait
                            ^^^^
and that alone puts it in the E Ticket ranks
This chamber has no windows and no doors!!!! ....better take the stairs.

                              Re: DCA needs a mountain

I don't see GRR as qualifying because I was talking about a ride that was both an Icon and a way to build UP in a limited space. GRR is not inside anything and also does not really take advantage of the "mountain" theme. Kali River rapids at DMGMS is basically the same ride without the mountain.

Think of Splash. People stand everyday watching the riders pludge down that iconic mountain. Space Mountain is a landmark too, as well as the Matterhorn. GRR does not work because the icon of the bear does not associate itself with the ride well enough. The best view of the bear is from the east side where the ride is not visible.

Even if there are those who still want to count GRR as DCA's mountain, the park can use more. Down at the southern end of the park there are electrical lines that Disney doees not want to spend the money to bury. What about a mountain range that covered those up and provided more space for a ride to be installed? Mountains go with every theme.
