  • Proof that every Cast Member cares about Disneyland

With each trip to the park, I encounter many CMs who make my visit completely enjoyable, truly magical. Most times my encounters are with attractions CMs that go above and beyond in the name of the Show. Sometimes, there are random CMs who help make my kids' experience even more magical (Shelley, a Main Street CM, is the best at this, hands down).

While playing with my new camera on my way through Sleeping Beauty Castle yesterday, I noticed something that made me realize that each and every CM cares about the park.

On one of the bridges to the west of the moat, there was a Security CM feeding the ducks. I was taken aback by the sense of ownership and pride he seemed to have in this task. He was happy to be feeding them. To me, it seemed like a part of his morning routine.

His actions made me remember that Disneyland is not just a place for APs, tourists, day trippers. It is for the CMs too. It is everyones park. We all love Disneyland.

What a great story, mamabot! That would probably make me tear up! lol, I'm the emotional type when it comes to those kinds of things. But seriously, you wouldn't find that kind of dedication and sheer joy at any other themepark in the world. In fact, not just in theme parks, but in every profession you're pretty hard pressed to find someone that LOVES their job that much. Certainly not those confined to cubicles.

I think this is just one more thing that makes Disneyland so magical. Try to imagine the park without these amazing personalities and attitudes. It would be a far cry from the wonderful place we enjoy today. I hope people don't take for granted the individuals that make up the magical place. Its sort of a circle--The CMs make the place magic, but the CMs likely act that way because thats the sort of thing DL does to people.

And that is the reason I had to write about the experience.

There are CMs at the DLR who do things like this Security CM did every day. This is only a small example as to the huge amount of love CMs who believe in the magic of Disneyland put into the park on each and every shift.

That's such a wonderful moment to witness!
As a CM, I believe that it's not only the magic of Disneyland that make it happen, but the magical guests that the DLR attracts that make us feel like we're at home. It's just wonderful when there are guests who have a lot of love and appreciation for what we do.

The best Cast Member we ever had was at DCA at the Hollywood Tower of Terror. The CM was named Erin, and she was hilarious! We were loaded, and she asked "Is this anyone's first stay at the Tower Hotel?" A little girl raised her hand, and Erin stared at her and said, "I'm sorry."
"Somebody need me too much; somebody know me too well. Somebody pull me up short, and put me through hell, and give me support for being alive. Make me alive. Make me alive! Make me confused; mock me with praise. Let me be used. Vary my days. But alone is alone, not alive. Somebody crowd me with love, somebody force me to care. Somebody let me come through, I'll always be there as frightened as you, to help us survive being alive."

Was that Saturday evening by chance? If so I think i was in the same elevator. It really was cute. The cast memebers at ToT really do have a great sense of humor.

The cast members really do add to the atmosphere of the park and always seem to make it a magical experience.

After lunch at the Blue Bayou yesterday, I had to stop at City Hall to compliment the cast members there. I have always had a wonderful experience at Blue Bayou and I felt that the staff should be commented.

CMs get a bad rap sometimes. There have been a couple unpleasant ones, but the majority of the CMs that I interact with are truly wonderful. I have had great experiences with almost every kind of CM out there. Having done some theatre, I truly enjoy watching the face characters at Disneyland. They're so right on the money.
The other day, I'm at the castle and was watching Mary Poppins for a good while. I wasn't in line but Mary turned to me, waved and said, "And a good afternoon to you, Sir" in a perfect British accent. She sounded just like Julie Andrews. Lovely.
                I think CMs totally rock.

I think one of the special things about the CMs is that for the most part, they WANT to be there, they WANT to do what they do.

Some young people get a job at McDonald's and gripe and frown the whole way through the work-week. CMs have chosen to apply themselves at DL, and for the screening process they go through, you know they are quality people and that they are excited about what they can do for people.

CMs are a great group of people...I say we go through our days at DL saying "thank you" to each CM we see!!! hehe.

Well, I'm pretty sure the guys scrubbing tables and mopping up vomit don't really care. They just want a job that pays more than minimum wage. I would say, as an educated guess and having worked there for a year, that 1 out of 15 cast members really actually care about Disneyland, and 1 out of 100 are actually hardcore and very into it.

You guys are all too sweet. I enjoy being a CM at Disneyland. Ever since the first day I got hired in, which was 2 years ago, I have grown fond of creating those "magical memories" for guests every single day. And it's always the little things that makes the guests more appreciative and more thoughtful of the CM's. Usually if I see a little girl dressed up as a Princess while I'm working, I would usually grab our autograph book that we have sitting around and I'll go up to that little girl and be like hi Princess so and so and then I'll be like, can i get your autograph. The parents faces light up and then the child's face lights up as well and the child then has this big smile on his or her face that rests the whole time. I wouldnt give my job up for anything in the world. It has been a wonderful experience. I love Disneyland so much and I'm so happy that I'm able to be apart of this family and Show. If I hear people dissing my park, I totally am there standing up for Disneyland and giving my input. All of us Cm's are greatly appreciated that most of the time that we have terrific guests. We like guests that like to joke around with us and have fun at the same time as well. We like guests that will actually interact with us and not just look at us and be like you moved or i thought you were animatronic. Working for Disneyland has sure changed me as a person. It has opened me up out of my shell and it has give me a clearer outlook on the life around me.

ROFL That's hysterical. When I go there for my first time I'll make sure to request I get the VIP Suite with a view.

Two moment I can think of from my forays into the park. One time, my family was in line at HM and this one butler's name was Rip. I looked at the tag and said, "That's appropriate." My mom said, "Why because he as a brother named Tear?" (as in "to rip") The CM said, "Then I wouldn't have a sister named Beloved. She's dearly."

Another CM moment, was eons ago (ok, the 80's). One of the chiminey sweeps fromt eh MAry Poppins float on a holiday parade made this jump, twisitng flip. I yelled in pleasure and he asked me if I wanted to see him do it again. At 6 years old I was like "YEAH" and sure enough he did it again! I was a happy 6 yo that night!

Definately true, the staff (Cast Members) at Disneyland definately set themselves apart from people with similar jobs at other theme parks. It all started in the beginning and even with the change in times has somehow managed to stay pretty consistent with what Walt expected of his employees. Bravo Disneyland CM's!

I don't want to dis you or heaven forbid dis Disneyland... So what do you do for the little boys? Do you have to be a little girl to get special recognition? The only thing for little boys, Buzz, is going away.

My son dressed as Prince Phillip on his 6th birthday at the park last Nov. and he got soooo much attention from the cm's!! He loved it, especially when they didn't realize that he was supposed to be "prince phillip" and just thought he was a knight! He would tell them "I'm not a knight I'm PRINCE PHILLIP" and then giggle and giggle. He was going to wear his Peter Pan costume that trip also, but never did.

I have a couple of really really good cm experiences, well alot but 3 that really stand out.

The first was on my youngest son's 4th birthday & we had had a not so enjoyable day in the park that day(long story). We were in line for Autopia at about 8pm and the cm handing out "licenses" stopped him and wished him a Happy Birthday(Shawn had a birthday sticker on)I thanked him telling him he was the 1st person all day to wish Shawn a Happy Birthday, thanked him again and went on the ride. When we got off the ride that same cm was waiting for us and handed Shawn a DL bag and told him "Here Shawn this is for you for your birthday from Disneyland" and told him happy birthday again. Shawn opened the bag and it was one of those little autopia cars, he was soooo excited that he got a present "from disneyland" it was SO SWEET!!

Another time with oldest we were waiting outside Space Mountain for my little brother on Space Mountain and Kyler was in the stroller, out came Buzz LIghtyear and he start pushing Kyler around in the stroller, I told him to look at who was pushing him and his eyes opened soooo wide and his whole face just lit up! LOL

There was one time at the Animation Building, which my youngest LOVES and he pushed "girl" instead of boy to see what character he'd be(again)and he got Ariel. Well, he started crying "I'm not a girl" so I took him out, when we got his stroller by the entrance the cm standing outside asked what was wrong and we told her and she told him "Ohhh that was you? I got a message from inside, they said to tell you when you came out that the machine was wrong and you are really Peter Pan" little did she know that Shawn is a HUGE Peter Pan fan so he just stared at her with these huge eyes and said "really, really" after thanking her my cousin was telling me(he was 17 at the time)"OMG I cant believe that, that was awesome! How did she know Shawn loved Peter Pan, that was awesome!!" It was sooo cool to see him as excited as my son.

Oh and one last one :o Last year for Shawn's 6th birthday we jumped on the monorail and the cm saw Shawn's birthday sticker, he asked Shawn how old he was and stuff and we went about our ride. As we were pulling into the DTD station he said over the loudspeaker "today we have a very special guest on the monorail, it's his 6th birthday, Happy Birthday Shawn!" and proceeding to sing Happy Birthday over the loudspeaker!! Shawn was sooooo excited!! It was a blast.

We always make sure to compliment these special cm's either at City Hall or through email at home. We feel they went out of their way to make our trip special, we'll go out of our way to make sure their efforts are recognized!

it is always great when the CM's make the kids feel great.

It is a great experience when a CM gets into the ride that they are working on. The little things that they say like on star tours and ToT...always makes me laugh and it adds a little extra something to the experience.

2 thumbs up to the CMs

That would be my dream job. Ever since my first trip to Disney, I've wanted to work for Disney. Just seeing children and children at heart enjoying themselves makes me smile inside.
