Phase 2 of Pirate's Lair?

There has been talk about a Phase 2 of the island if POTC:AWE proves successful and there is money to put in the budget. Most know about the Fort Wilderness closure, uncertain future of Burning Cabin, and perhaps expansion into "No Man's Land" which is more like a maintenance backstage area I believe.

So what are your thoughts and ideas about Phase 2? I saw a picture of a sandlot where guests could dig in the dirt. Something like DAK's Dinosaur dig. Talks of a interactive fort to take the place of Fort Wilderness. These could really be fun. But the main question mark I think is the north half of the island. Said to be a new "attraction". Rumors point to a new cave. I'd wouldn't want another cave to explore. This is about the only expansion idea I don't agree with. Dead Man's Grotto seems to already be great.

Maybe they can have a "pirate's village". Like in the movie "Hook". Perhaps most would think of it more like Tortuga though... hmmm...

Lastly, I don't think an actual ride is appropiate.

Maybe the AWE concept now that you mention the "Hook" style pirate town with the run down ships as buildings and such. Everyone who has seen POTC3 knows which city I'm referring to

It might be hard for them to resist the idea of another cave, for two reasons: (1) They've got one there already (the secret tunnel from Ft. W. to the shore) that can be expanded and developed, and (2) it would take some pressure off Dead Man's Grotto as the only thing of its kind, which might relieve congestion.

For phase two, eradicate all remaining traces of Huck and Tom and make the island part of NOS. Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island

I like to see if Disneyland put a fort back May be one like the POC movies.

I haven't seen POTC:AWE yet but I think I know what you're talking about. Anyways, I'd like the cannon fire/blasts effects for guests to interact with in the fort instead of at Lafftie's (sp) Tavern.

I think it would be sweet if in the next phase they turned the island into Shipwreck Cove!

I think that if they do a Phase 2, I would prefer to see more of a quest added in which clues were littered across the island and one has to find the clues and put together a message to find the "treasure." Now that treasure might be just to solve the puzzle and then receive a small prize. The prize might be just fast-passes for the rest of the day. The clues could change each week so that there would be a "repeatability" to the island.

This way the whole family could work together to find clues and solve the puzzle. That would help build a memory for the family for the day. I know that this is a different approach to an attraction, but I think that could make the island special.

I should think they would need a real elaborate treasure cave, like Benn Gunn's in Treasure Island or the Cave of Wonders in Aladdin to complete the experience. Digging in the sand is not quite the same.

They also need a full-sized Pirate Ship like the one we lost in Fantasyland - - and Skull Rock with waterfalls.

I don't remember for which park it is, but there was an article on miceage a while back talking about how one of the parks is going to get a super-duper Pirates land basically...and it was mentioned in the article that some of the smaller attractions for the area would be considered for phase 2 for our island. The way it was worded, it sounded like it would be a ride. What, exactly? Not sure.

I just posted the following entry in the main Pirate's Lair thread, but the idea is probably more applicable to this discussion:

You know that, if Pirate's Lair was a temporary attraction created to coincide with the film's release, people would be much less incensed.

All Disney would have had to do is upgrade Tom Sawyer Island and keep the pirate changes reversible.

The permanence a second phase suggests is disturbing. Disney would be wise to leave well enough alone and keep Pirate's Lair a temporary overlay in the style of something from the entertainment department.

Well I think that's a tribute to the "caves" in the Pirates ride itself (in fact that's where the cursed aztec gold is right now), so to base a cave of a cave that was based on a cave that is close by.....well I still like the idea of elaborate treasure though

they have it block off or have a huge moat around the treasure and some pirannas in the moat and have a sign saying Yeh be Warned.
