  • Living in SoCal for Disneyland

Has anyone moved to SoCal for the main reason of being close to DL or other amusement enterprises? Or, are you mainly a DL fan because you live in So Cal?

I narrowed my college selection choices to Southern California because I love the area so much. Disneyland wasn't the only factor in that decision, of course, but when I needed to find schools to send my SAT/ACT scores to, I picked from a website that listed schools within 30 minutes of Anaheim.

Any time my husband even mentions the possibility of moving out of state the first thing I think of is how far away Disneyland would be. Then I panic... then I tell him if he moves, he moves alone.

Thankfully so far it hasen't come to that.

I was born in Glendale in 1968 and my father moved us to Orange County in 1972 not to be closer to DL (Not that we were far in the first place) but back then, Orange County was a quiet little suburban area of LA and he was looking for a place to settle down and slow things down a bit in preparing for retirement. (Boy, was he wrong!)

So that is why I live close. It's funny when I was little I remember always telling myself I would never want to move far away, because then I wouldn't be near Disneyland anymore! So I haven't moved away since then...

Born and raised here in SoCal, I inherited my Disneyland obsession from my mother who began visiting the park the week it opened.

Well I'm stationed in San Antonio, TX now. After I get out I plan on moving to Anaheim or near SoCal. I'm originally from CA anyway.

I was inches from moving to the south (because its cheaper there) and the only reason we stayed was because its socal! there is no place like it anywhere else. Theres soo much to do here and yeah. no really relevent or anything just saying.

Everytime I mention moving away from SoCal to some place cheaper, less crowded, less smoggy, etc., DH always says "But then we wouldn't be near Disneyland!" We love it here and there would have to be a pretty good reason to leave!

Re: Living in SoCal for Disneyland

I actually wanted to move to So Cal because of it being home of Disneyland and all the other parks, but mainly just Disneyland. It just worked out well that I got a job offer in Orange County and I moved out here. We've thought of moving, but it's hard to consider it when we'd be leaving DL behind.

I have always wanted to live in SoCal so when the opportunity to go to school down here I jumped all over it. When I moved down it was close to my birthday so my gift to myself was the AP I always wanted.

We moved to San Pedro when we got married... now I don't want to move because we are only 30 mins from Disneyland.
I've stuck my foot in my mouth so many times I don't think I'll ever get rid of the taste.

may I add a flip to this question?

I am always considering the thought of moving to SoCal but I enjoy the area I live in now. When I think of SoCal I think of city life. If I were to move my wife and kids I would like it to be in a more rural atmosphere.

Does anyone know of some nice cities close to DL that are good for raising children?

I would move to SoCal if it meant I could breathe, but as it doesn't I'm content to live in the same state.

How rural? What population would be the cutoff?
