  • Possible Changes to SF area of DCA

I was looking at an areal map of DCA recently and realized how much unused potential there is in the Bay Area section of DCA. I thought it would be interresting to see if anyone out there had any ideas of how to improve this section to be an area people would want to visit. Currently when I walk through that area, there is nothing to do behind those facades. What would you do to improve that area of the park?

Good point. I feel that this area is at a greater level of unused potential than even the rest of DCA, if that is at all possible.

DCA has a lot of areas with underused potential. The SF area seriously needs help, the entire portion of Paradise Pier that is to the right (when facing the park gate) of California Screamin' should ever be moved to what would remain of PP, or else removed. In that section of PP a completly new land should be created with a E-Ticket. In the Hollywood Backlot, Monsters Inc, Who Wanta to be a Millionaire, those two unused restarunts, and that outdoor theatre should be removed to make room for a major ride. The entire Golden Dreams and challenge trail area could be removed for some major attractions. And then after all those underused areas, you still have the Timon parking lot to expand into.

When one things of San Francisco, there are many things that the SF portion of DCA lacks. The first that comes to mind are cable cars. I know that the hills of SF are not really possible to recreate, so that is maybe not a possibility, but even a short haul cable car would be fun atmosphere. Pier 39, Ghiradelli chocolate, Chinatown, Lombard Street, Hate Ashbury, Alcatraz, BART and the Pyramid building are all things I think of. I think that an area that features at least some of these iconic places would be a pleasure to visit. I think a place that featured SF food and shopping would be fun.

Widen the Bridge and make it an actual Monorail station for one. How cool would that be for the Monorail to stop ON THE BRIDGE and you step out on the park side looking out over DCA, then the usual "Exit all the way off the platform please. In classic Disney style the "exit" could be through a gift shop!

I'll give you the "wasted space" comment but Disneyland also has a bunch of real estate in front. Part of that is Walt's small town effect but he also wanted you to walk a bit, forgetting the outside world with every step. You aren't hit with a giant castle or Jungle boat right after you walk in the gate... you walk around a bit first. DCA never did a berm and I think that is part of it's downfall, you can walk past and see right into the park... to me that's a letdown.

I'm also one of those rare ones who likes the Paradise Pier look. It needs more rides and better theming... Knott's kicked DCA's tail on the "boardwalk" effect... but with a little work it'd be like having the Pike back in Long Beach (real Pike... not the shopping mall piece of crap they recently built)

I could go for an Escape From Alcatraz dark ride.

Yeah, it'd be pretty cool. Have the ride mechanism be like Peter Pan's Flight. That way the beginning and end can be on land, but the middle can actually be on/over the water. Just like swimming or rowing a mini life raft in the San Francisco Bay!

It'd be exciting if it went a tad faster, so when the cars turned they swung a little bit. Man, I love thinking of ride concepts.
