  • Extending The Monorails---DCA

What do you long time disney regulars think about changing the track layout on the monorail system to include a stop somewhere inside DCA? Perhaps, right at the bridge leading to Paradise Pier.

Just interested in what you think.

Hmmm...so people who buy just a ticket to DL would be able to get into DCA for free..or vice versa?
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
      Marge: Pink.
      Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

If I heard correctly in a few weeks/months they will be closing the monorail for a while to re-do some of the supports. That would be a good time to extend it. I still can not believe that it doesnt go to the hotels!!!!!

No silly -- those who don't have annual passes or park hoppers would have to wear shock collars while on the monorail. If they try to get off, it will zap them back into their seats.

The above problem is probably a main reason why they didn't build a station in DCA in the first place.

Mabye if the opened Westcot, or another theme park in the near area. THEN add a stop to new park(s) and new hotel(s). The way the Florida Monorail works...or did work as I remember. (last WDW adventure 10+years ago).

Ohhhh, gotcha! They should do it Indy style...walk around asking for tickets...and then if they don't have one...punch 'em and proclaim to everyone while gestering to the guy.."NO Ticket!".

Yes, and it works the same way at the current DTD location. But adding a monorail stop and DCA would mean adding some system to stop people with only one day single park tickets from park hopping by using the monorail. They would have to put in ticket booths at both park's monorail stops.

The parks aren't really far enough apart to need monorail transportation to them. WDW makes good use of it since the parks aren't really walking distance at least compared to DL and DCA. If they build a third park a monorail extension would be good to have.

It would be nice if the monorail stopped at the parking structure, though. That tram gets awfully cold at night!

Why not do this.... Stop at DCA.... and stop at DL... to get in you have your bags checked at the gate to the monorail.... and then use your ticket to enter the park at the platforms rather than at DTD.... it would eliminate a problem....

or have the DCA car while the rest of the monorail would be the DL cars....

Exactly. And have them make a stop at the hotels. That used to be a reason to stay at the DLH. :monkey:

Isn't that still a reason to stay at the Hotel? Isn't the Monorail station at DTD in the same place it was when it served the Hotel? Where ESPN, Rainforest, and the Theater are now used to be shops, the Monorail Cafe, and a bar (all connected to the Hotel, of course).

If Disney had retained ownership of the Angels and Ducks, they could have run a monorail line down Katella to the Big Ed, Pond, and future 3rd park ......

I'm going to post a new post Tomorrow that'll feature several of these aspects as far as improving resort transportation

It's really not that hard to deal with the ticketing. They used to sell like a $2 ticket at the DLH that allowed you to get on the monorail, ride the loop, then get back of at the DLH stop. All it would require is a turnstyle at the monorail station. Heck, they could even just put up a couple of the unmanned turnstyles that they have in Florida.

Is it necessary? No. Would it be nice, reduce confusion, and add to the status as a "resort"? Absolutely.

how difficult would it really be to handle the construction. to my understanding, monorail track can be prefabbed and virtually thrown in place. The only real "construction" would be the station. Which doesn't need to be all that elaborate. Just elevated.

It's not that long a walk, either to the DTD stop or to the front gate. So what would be the point?
Besides, there are entrances to DCA from two of the hotels. (Say, is that one to PP still open?)

Nope -- they closed the "secret, private" entrance that Paradise Pier Hotel guests got to use. They now tell them to use the one inside the Grand Californian Hotel.

And yes, the monorail station at DTD is in the EXACT same spot as it was before DCA and DTD came to be. They just remodeled AROUND it.
