  • Will the great Little Mermaid dark ride finally come to Disneyland ?

A looong time ago, i.e at the opening of Disneyland Paris, back in 1992, when one bought a map of the park, you could see a Little Mermaid attraction in the Fantasyland area with these words "future attraction". Well, it was such a "future" attraction that it never opened, and probably will never will, at least in DLP.

But all is not lost as the idea to bring a Little Mermaid attraction at Disneyland, Anaheim is seriously in talks.
One month ago, at the opening of the Finding Nemo's submarine voyage at Disneyland, Ed Grier in an interview to a web site cited "...his personal favorite as The Little Mermaid... "The Little Mermaid continues to be a Disney classic," he said during a roundtable talk at Main Street's Opera House, noting that the animated version of the Hans Christian Andersen story has been adapted for Broadway. "Imagineer Tony Baxter has done great work on a Little Mermaid-based attraction. Have we officially drawn plans up? No, we haven't. But I think we can one day."
Mind you, this doesn't mean that a definitive decision has been done to bring the Little Mermaid attraction for sure at Disneyland. So don't get too excited right now.
But the good news is that legendary imagineer Tony Baxter was recently named as the Imagineer in charge of Disneyland - to supervise Disneyland's development. And, as the Little Mermaid project was created by Tony Baxter AND that it is a great dark ride project, my feeling is that it's time again to cross our fingers and hope that Ed Grier will make the right choice between eventual different concept around the same theme.

You can read more about it and see renderings and a video of a virtual creation of the ride on the disney and more site.

It'll come and be put where the Fantasyland Skyway station is, however you'll need to be a Year of a Million Dreams winner in order to ride it.

The ride will definitely come to either Disneyland or DCA - more likely DCA, as a synergized tie in ti the Mermaid Grotto restaurant.

That's only to stay there overnight. But, you have to hold your breath the entire night.

Hopefully they will have improved upon the original ride design and not just push that one through because "people seem to like it from the DVD."

Well DUH I kinda figured that...my point was Fantasyland doesn't have much more open room in it for any kind of new attraction with out taking something out. Maybe they could use the old motorboat area.

They've had plenty of time to improve upon the concept design, and we can expect something exceptional in terms of length, storyline, technological effects, and ride system.

                      It will replace Mr. Toad...

Just kidding! Did I p*ss you off and scare you? :lmao:

The mermaid ride would either be installed in the former Motor Boat Cruise area (near the Finding Nemo Sub Voyage), or else go to DCA's Paradise Pier - on the King Triton's Carousel / Ariel's Grotto restaurant side,

Mmmmmm; "The Little Mermaid" dark ride, set in an English Tudor estate motif...

                              I like it!

Makes as much sense as an English Bear next to the Brer Family, and a California-themed kiddie area devoted to insects.

Shall we add a Land and fill it with a bunch of generic carnival rides, and sell the public on the fact that it's themed to be an "Amusement Park" ?
Nah - no one would buy that...
