  • Looking back two years.

Two years ago today, I was on my way to Disneyland for the first time. It was coincidental that the 6th Harry Potter Book was released on that very day. I was actually quite happy about that, because it gave me something to do on the plane. I was able to pick up my copy in the Chicago airport, before boarding the early morning flight.

I traveled with good friends, and I can still recall how excited I was. They had all been to California, and Disneyland before. I was a new MiceChatter, and I had done some posting on MiceChat in preparation for that trip. I credit MiceChat to this day for making my trip so enjoyable.

I remember how impressed I was with the California Palm trees. I just absolutely loved them. We stayed at the Hilton Anaheim, and we passed by those wonderful trees, each day as we walked to the park. My friend Jennifer was amused at my childlike reaction to them. What can I say, a girl from Chicago, doesn't see Palm trees too often.

Yes, I am the older woman holding the book. I traveled with my good friend and her 3 children. The little girl is her youngest child.

Congrats on marking your biennial anniversary! Year number two is "cotton", so go out there and buy yourself a T-shirt or underwear or somethin' to celebrate! Nice pic (the first).

As we got to the Disneyland Resort, the first thing that we saw was the huge Block Party Bash Cones. I just loved how everything was painted Gold for the 50th. The Banners were wonderful. We ended up taking a lot of photos on our morning walks to the park.

We were all hungry, and we wanted to pick up our free items at The Walt Disney Travel Company. We headed directly to Downtown Disney. We had a great lunch at Naples, and we "toasted" finally making it to Disneyland. We made many other stops along the way, before we finally entered Disneyland for the first time.

This is one of my favorite pictures of "me".

My friend Jennifer, and her 3 kids, entered Disneyland before me. Jennifer takes great pictures. She is good at carrying her camcorder in one hand, and her digital camera in the other. With all my excitement, I think she wanted to catch the look on my face, when I entered the park for the first time.

We had entered the park, between 2:30 and 3 p.m. I wanted to ride the train around the park, before I entered Town Square, and made my way down Main Street. When we finished our grand tour on the "Ward Kimball", the Parade was stopped in front of City Hall.

Now, I am a great fan of Jiminy Cricket. I was pleasantly surprise, when I walked down the stairs from the train platform, just in time to see the Pinocchio float, and my favorite Cricket.

One of the very first things that I promised myself that I would do, was take a picture of the Firehouse. I had read on MiceChat that there was a light lit in the window of Walt Disney's Apartment. It was a grand feeling to be finally seeing the Firehouse, and the light in the window. I have many pictures of that Firehouse.

It's funny, I had a brand new camera for that trip. I had never taken digital photos before. I was just learning. The very first photos that I had been taking, were turning out black and white. I had inadvertently changed the setting. I deleted a lot of black and white photos. I messed up big time.

I am actually posting Jennifer's photos now. All my 50th photos are on another CD that I recently copied off of my computer.

After I realized that I had only black and white shots of the Fire Station, later on in my trip, I took some great color shots.

The kids stopped for quite a while to view the photo collage in Town Square. I especially liked the "Steam Boat Willie One".
