  • ''Remember When'' - The 50th Anthem

Disneyforever.com is reporting that Le Ann Rimes has recorded the theme song for the 50th Anniversary which is apparently entitled "Remember When"

You can read about it here: http://disneyforever.com/iboard/inde...showtopic=5607

How silly it this though? Remember the Magic? Remember When?

    Yeah uh huh....

Remember when.... the submarines were still open?
Remember when.... the peoplemover was still running?
Remember when.... churros were only $1?
Remember when.... Lincoln was actually worth visiting more than once?
Remember when.... you could walk to your car without waiting for a tram?
Remember when.... admission was only $20?
Remember when.... Disneyland actually built new attractions?
Remember when.... things were just better all around?

I'm really happy for all the progress they have made recently, and I would have much rather seen a song that reflected who great Disneyland WOULD be in the future - not something that's basically an anthem for resting on your laurels - something Eisner swore he would never do.

    Craziness.

      Here, here!
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
      Marge: Pink.
      Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

I sure hope she'll yodel in the song. Very magical.

            All-new iconic attractions?!

I'd hardly call 1 mediocre dark ride and the reopening of a classic attraction all-new. Y'know, marketing does require the careful use of hype, but this is just downright untruthful!

Agreed...new paint on all the attractions does not count as "all-new iconic attractions and spectacular entertainment".

You are 100% right. I'd hate to see a class action lawsuit against Disney for bait and switch marketing practices. But if they are going to be deceptive, it serves them right.

I do hope the song is good. The demo track that leaked out a year ago was pretty good, but I don't know if that is the same one they ended up using.

I'm encouraged to hear that you felt the demo was pretty good... maybe the new fireworks show won't be a complete wash-out after all.

I have to admit, while I'm not much of a parade or show guy, I do enjoy a Disney fireworks display. I thought Believe (both the regular and holiday version) was brilliant. I'm not sure that it's possible to have this new show top that, but as long as it's on par, I'm satisfied.

with goosebumps, i will be watching the 50th Celebration fireworks show, including Tinkerbell's new flight, recalling fond memories of the past. (not a cliche, but, true honest boyhood memories of the park.)

i am sure i will love the music... if no one had told me, i wouldn't have known who recorded it.

                            looking forward to it.

I recently obtained a demo copy of a 50th Anniversary anthem for Disneyland, but it sounds like a different version from the Le Ann Rimes song mentioned above. I can only say I hope this version I have was a demo that's been thrown out. The lyrics are as follows:

                              "Half a century of magic
                              Fifty is a lot
                              But we always will remember
                              Where it was all begun...

(Voice over of Walt Disney's Opening Day speech)

                              The magic is forever!"

Wow, I don't know if anyone else has heard this version, but please tell me that Disney could come up with something better than this! With all the top-notch writers and artists they have, the best they could come up with is "Fifty is a lot?" Worst of all, it doesn't even rime!

I can only hope that this was just an early discarded demo. This year, of all years, Disneyland deserves a FANTASTIC theme song!

As far as the demo goes... if I'm thinking of the same one (with the "To all who come to this happy place" quote at the end), it was actually someone who made their own rendition of what they thought it should be. As far as I know, there was never any official consideration of that song. That one's been discussed on magicmusic.net a number of times.

As for this announcement... I'm looking forward to it, and I'll wait and hear it myself before I pass judgement.

Me too. It takes a lot for me not to like a fireworks show. If it has music, a few neat effects and some big shells, I'll be thrilled. With all the work that they've been putting into this one, I already know I'm going to love it. It is the regular parades and shows that I get cranky about (story, theme, etc. are very important to me).

I can't believe how pescimistic everyone is. I happen to think Leanne Rhymes could do an awesome job with it, I am not particularly a fan of hers, but she sounds nothing like she used to and I really do think she has a beautiful voice now. ANyway have some hope, it seems like people only think nagatively about DLR now.
