  • Wheelchair rental..

I'm taking my mom to Disneyland on August 14th cuz she finally wants to get her Deluxe AP.. anyway.. she had foot surgery about a month and a half ago.. so we need to rent her a wheelchair..

I am a PAP holder and Disney Visa Credit Card holder.

I know that when it comes to stroller rentals, I get them free due to my Visa card.

    So my question is:
Does that also apply to wheelchair rentals? Is there a discount if I show my AP or my Credit Card?

I'm just wondering, we don't mind paying for the rental but if there is a chance that I can get a discount, I think it would be nice to utilize it.

    Thanks a bunch!

I'll be at Disneyland on August 13th and 14th if anyone wants to say hi! Hee hee... exciting!

    Re: Wheelchair rental..

Don't recall the AP benny of a free wheelchair, but the last time that we rented one, it was $8.00 plus a $20 deposit.

When you properly return it, you get your 20 bucks back.

Rent it early, since they have been known to run out.

    Good luck!

      Re: Wheelchair rental..

you should think about renting your mom and ECV rather than a wheelchair. you get your deposit back so it just ends up $20 for the day ( if i remember correctly) that way she can drive herself and won't have any guilt about you pushing her chair for her. In the august heat you will both have a much happier day together with alot less sweat! if she has trouble standing for any length of time since her surgery you might also want to consider doing the handicap access for your visit to the park. I've done this when I visit with my daughter and it really is great. have a super day together!

IF she does get an ECV, she should make sure she practices with it and KNOWS how to drive it BEFORE she gets into the Parks, if she has never used one before. Nothing worse than learning to drive an ECV in the midst of a Disneyland crowd! If she is already experienced on one, should not be a problem. I am not sure about the Visa Wheelchair deal, never have heard that it is free with Visa. Call Guest Services at DL. They will know for sure. Have a great time!

Actually, an ECV is $55, which you get $20 back, total cost is $35

A Manual Wheelchair is $30, which you get $20 back, total cost is $10

No discounts or free wheelchairs that I know of. (Other than a DLR Nurse issuing a certificate).

            Re: Wheelchair rental..

            Ok!

            Thanks for all the advice.

I think I will stick to the wheelchair for two important reasons
            1. It's cheaper
            2. She has NO idea how to manuever that thing!

I think it would be a bigger hassle to spend the first hour or so trying to learn basic driving skills.. and then accidentally running over people's ankles all day..

I don't mind pushing her around.. and I'll have a friend with me to help also..

She's also the type of person who will insist on walking around regardless of her foot.. so.. the big issue is to figure out a way to strap her down on that thing!

            Thanks for all the input!

Hope to see some of you all there!!

              Re: Wheelchair rental..

OK I figured I'd just add to this thread instead of starting a new one.

With my injured foot in a walking cast, I'll need to rent a wheelchair for the foreseeable future (at least the next 2-4 weeks).

My question is, when you rent a chair, say at D-land, can the chair be taken to DCA? To Downtown Disney? Because I have a get together soon that would have me needing to go all over the resort site.

                Re: Wheelchair rental..

you can go over to DCA with no problems, you can not go to down town disney at all. you will have to park it some where to go on the train and back again. ( electric chairs,) I am assuming its the same for the wheel chairs to. Sorry about your foot Onut... and you know, if you rent off site you can go any where and the cost is way cheaper!

                  Re: Wheelchair rental..

If you are staying at one of the Three Disney owned Hotels, they do have some standard wheelchairs available from the Bell Hop stations, not guaranteed to be available, but these chairs can be taken anywhere within the Resort area, including Downtown Disney. And there is no charge (but good protocol is to tip).

They happen to be black and has the "Hotels of the Disneyland Resort" logo on the back, instead of the Green rental chairs available in the parks.
